First I was me,

Selfish as can be,

Wanting everything from A to Z

And wanting it all for me.

Then I became we,

A part of an us.

I learned to share, give and take

I learned how to trust.

Next I was you,

Believe me it's true.

I would rather give than receive,

It was you I wanted to please.

Now I am them,

A family man.

Giving my children,

All that I can.

If you look real close,

It is easy to see,

I am older and wiser,

And no longer a me.

What I Get Paid To Do

Blog Posted:4/17/2013 1:28:00 PM
When I am not writing poems, short stories and other things, for fun and my own therapeutic benefits, I am, amongst other things, writing reports, articles and blogs in the field I am paid to focus on. I specialize in the fields of corporate emergency preparedness, crisis management, disaster recovery and business continuity. Events like the recent Boston Marathon tragedy and their impacts on business and commerce draw my attention and demand my focus.

Although I do not post to my business blog as often as I post here (work vs. hobby) I do, every now and then, try to apply my writing skills to my profession. A lot of what I get paid to do results in me writing rather voluminous findings reports and analyses. Should you ever read one of them, you may better understand why I use poetry as an outlet for my other me.

I thought I would share with you the most recent blog I wrote about the Boston Marathon. I kind of allowed my emotional side to contribute a little to this article.

I had no idea you were into disaster recovery preparedness and business continuity planning, Joe. I admire you for what you do, I think there needs to be more awareness regarding this-- not just for companies, but for families as well. Thank you for sharing your article, and you are so right with what you say about the lessons learned, of what is one of the most important lessons-- at the end of the day, I guess it still boils down to love... also reminds me of how one of the most talked about tragedies in my country last year, the death of one of the cabinet member's in a plane crash-he was a beloved man and what stood out for most, was he never failed to say his I love you's to his family

sorry, I rambled, don't probably make too much sense-- I am in a rambling mood in blogs this evening (early morning)-- oh, a typo up there with "member's"-- I meant members-- I am lazy to edit it.

Outstanding job Joe. This incident hit close to home here, the mother of the young man who lost both his legs managed a restaurant in town for many years and the niece of someone I work with lost both legs below the knee. What I'm hearing back here is terrible, many injuries aren't being talked about in the media but I think we should hear about them because it sharpens our focus and if there is anything to be learned from this it's to be street smart and always be aware of what's happening around you. Take care!

great job with your article, Joe. I found it both informative as well as interesting in your spiritual advice of making sure you have always said "i love you's."

"any idiot with access to the internet and with evil in their heart can pull off this type of terror" ... sadly, you're so right, Joe.

That was wonderful reporting, Joe.........but what stood out for me the most, was that final sentence....the way you ended your report in such a meaningful and personal way......and I agree whole heartedly with those sentiments. :) Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Suzanne for taking the time to check out my blog. Unfortunately, between acts of God and acts of men lately, there have been a lot of recent incidents requiring emergency response and crisis management skills.
