I WAS ME

First I was me,

Selfish as can be,

Wanting everything from A to Z

And wanting it all for me.

Then I became we,

A part of an us.

I learned to share, give and take

I learned how to trust.

Next I was you,

Believe me it's true.

I would rather give than receive,

It was you I wanted to please.

Now I am them,

A family man.

Giving my children,

All that I can.

If you look real close,

It is easy to see,

I am older and wiser,

And no longer a me.

Interesting Number of Views

Blog Posted:11/2/2012 1:23:00 PM
I have mentioned here before that I am not a very good PS citizen.  I do not post very many comments on other's poetry and, as a result, which I completely understand and appreciate, my poems do not get many views in return.

My poems average about 30 - 50 views (many of those me, rereading my own poem).  Poems that have done well in Contests get anywhere from 50 - 100 views.  Not a problem.  I understand how this works.

Interestingly enough though, I recently posted a poem/story that has, for reasons I cannot understand, received over 300 views.  This is not a poem that was entered into a contest; this poem has not been a featured poem on the Home page; and, I just thought it interesting that this particular entry, "The Goodbye Kiss", would have received so many views.  And, the funny thing is - this poem has not received many comments - in fact, to date, just 1!  Interesting.

Have any of you experienced such a phenomona?  A poem that has received more than your usual number of views for reasons that you are not aware.  I just thought this a bit odd and thought I might ask others if they have had a similar experience.  Any ideas why one poem would go "viral" so to speak?  What would draw attention to one particular poem?

Thanks for your time.

Joe

JOe, just read the comments you got here. I think each person had something good to say to answer your question. Especially that thing PD was talking about. And form and title also increase one's being "viewed" which in my opinion is a misnomer. I seriously doubt we are getting all these "views"! what we are getting is just mere curiosity or a "peep show quickie" from whence the clicker just quickly goes back to his clicking.

I do not nearly agree with you. My sister Sidney, hardly has time t run the SKAT account. Poets still seek the SKAT account out, and leave comments on all the old poems on there. LOL~ I am jealous of the views on that account. Since the account is not as active when it comes to posting any poems. I think poets who enter any SKAT CONTEST" are viewing what appears on the first page of the most recent poems. and more than 25 poems on the first page have over 1000 viewers. I'm like WTF!! that is more viewers than the PD account. Lots of poets are always stopping by to thank for any contest winnings. Anyways~

Yes, I have experienced this phenomenon. It has to be a glitch or something. SOmeone told me one of my less popular poems for comments had like 500 or more views. it has to be impossible!

WOW - my head would spin with that many views and comments. You should run for office, Ruben, with that kind of support.

Joe, sometimes a poet will click on your name, and view your poems, and sometimes they click the poem with the most viewers, or their first poem. I have a few poems over 2000 viewers, and each one comes with over 150 comments... I think, every time I comment a poem, poets who do not like viewing my recent work, click on my old stuff out of curiosity and comment them poems... LOL.. and Ruben, must had been the one who did a drive by without a comment... :-)

When I do find time to comment on poems I usually just start from the top of most recents. And, therefore, often miss poets that I should seek out. I don't leave comments unless I have something genuinely good to say about the poem, so not all get a comment from me.

, I read the poem when it was on the 200 poems, I recall it was about a visitor you thought was your wife... hum! sadly you will never know. Well I left no comment... The title alone got my attention... Some times I do not bother with the poetry of poets who offer no one support. But it was a great read...Anyways~ I'm happy to be a supporter of the soup, my joy comes from all the support I offer and receive. I love commenting, any poem that strikes me or not. I'm a people pleaserrr. And by the way... ""kiss"" drew my attention :-) ... always~pd

Well, just to clarify - it's not that I offer no support - just not as much as I would like. In viewing my Community Page it ahows I have made over 1,000 comments; over 400 blog comments; posted 98 blogs; and sponsored 12 contests - so I do show some support - just not as much as I would like in a perfect world. And, I do appreciate your support PD. Thanks.

Usually the title or the form used to write the poem makes me "click" on it. I Like Japanese forms; I always "click" on them...but, lately, Im a little picky with "haiku" and "tanka" (juxtaposition & pivot)..so, if I dont "see" it ...I dont comment because I dont know what to say... What can I say? "Nice try" LOL! Regarding my poems (?), when any of them has many views but not many comments... it means that something is wrong... it means that I have to revise it. Im going to read you "Goodbye Kiss"...but you know... : ) if my comment is not there.... : ) Have a nice evening. Ruben.

No, even though I comment onother poems, I usually get even less views and comments, although it is increasing, slowly, as I am here longer. I think sometimes if the title is racy you get more views.

And yes, it got many more views than normal.

Joann, check out my poem titled, "Sex in an Elevator" - you might have to search for it, it is kind of old. You might get a kick out of it - it was a trick to see if I got views because of the title - it has nothing to do with sex in an elevator - haha.
