First I was me,

Selfish as can be,

Wanting everything from A to Z

And wanting it all for me.

Then I became we,

A part of an us.

I learned to share, give and take

I learned how to trust.

Next I was you,

Believe me it's true.

I would rather give than receive,

It was you I wanted to please.

Now I am them,

A family man.

Giving my children,

All that I can.

If you look real close,

It is easy to see,

I am older and wiser,

And no longer a me.

What Is Inside of You?

Blog Posted:8/21/2012 5:47:00 AM
I read a terrific poem by one of PS's most talented poets and noticed that he left a comment that said something like (rephrased):

"I do not write fiction or tell stories, I only write what is truly inside of me."

Now I think this is great and I am in awe of him and his talent.

I, on the other hand, do happen to write fiction and I do tell stories.  But that is because, that too, is what is inside of me.

Sometimes, I am not sure exactly where from inside of me they come, but fantasy seems well feed inside there somewhere.  It is 4:00 in the morning.  My dog just woke me barking at the back door to be let outside.  While waiting for her to do her stuff, I powered up my PC at the kitchen table and typed up the poem, "That Green-Eyed Monster".  I have no clue why that was there at 4:00 in the morning.  It just kind of appeared on the screen one verse at a time.  I wasn't even sure where it was taking me until I got there.

The dog barked to be let back in.  I posted the poem - read it if you like - wrote this blog and am taking myself back to bed.

Good night folks ... again.

Thanks for your input folks. Yup, everyone is different and that is what I love about this place and all of you. David, there is much more inside of you than just blood and guts - that wierd sense of humor for one thing.

Sometimes, I write true stuff and, at other times, totally made up stuff - I guess it depends how I feel at the time, lol

Sometimes I tell stories with poetry, but usually for a contest. When I write for myself, it is truth in print. My truth, anyway.

Thanks for your comments ladies. And I agree ... variety is the spice of life ... with poets and with everything else. Joe (wonder why I am so tired this morning ... darn dog).

Joe , I saw that poem he wrote too. It was a great message about himself as a poet. However,I can't really say the same myself. Like you, I am drawn to story telling, but the way I see it, the stories inside us are just our way of relating how we see the world. We also take how others feel, not just ourselves, and put it into story or poetry form. I could not live in a world that was just people penning their own feelings and nothing else. I was raised on stories in books and I adore fiction! That's the whole reason the movie industry is so huge. People will always love a good story!!
