Favorite Poem of the Month.

I hear their laughter and see their bright smiles,

Going round and round with joy together,

Their rhapsody reaches far beyond miles

I hear their laughter.

I believe their dreams make this world brighter,

Rich childhood experiences in wee while

Will teach the love to make them grow better,

A hold of their hands, a care that's tactile.

Carousel, a cradle of young dreamer,

Children galloping up and down in style

I hear their laughter.

Venting About Views

Venting about Views

In regarding the way views work around here,
I would like to take this time to address a matter that bothers me….
I noticed 6 months ago, when we reply on the comments we add 3 extra views.
I wish I could replay to all my incoming comments and thank the poets, but I don’t like the extra views I add on my own poems.

I clicked on “THE SWAN” poem my latest:-)  this morning four times in order to reply and give thanks, to a few comments left on the poem.
I noticed I had 18 extra views. The only time I get high views immediately
is when I post a new poem. I know the reply button is on here for good use. However, I think the soup should find a system that eliminates us from adding more than one view per poem.

This is just an issue I’m having with the way that the views are tallied on individual poems. I have found that If I go into my poems to look at my comments so I can respond, to those kind enough to comment, I adds 3 view to my poem, in that very moment once I reply on the comment reply box.  I know I can look at a single poem that is newly posted up to ten times in one day but I have no idea how much my own views truly obscure the true number of views. FOR THAT REASON, I STAY AWAY FROM MY OWN POEMS, and only visit my in boxes. I have also found that I will go back several times over on other people’s poems to reply to comments left on my comments. It makes me wonder; what is the point of keeping track of the total amount of views a poems has if there are so many things that can change that total without actually having to do with reading the poem. Perhaps if there is a way to change the system so that each person can only affect the total views of a poem once regardless of how many times they visit the poem page this would give us a much more accurate view of how many different people are viewing our work instead of just how many times our page has been clicked on. I believe this would be far better information to have and would make the poetry soup experience better. I read all my incoming comments from my comment inbox… but, sometimes I am curious and click on my own poem like everyone else. I am hoping the soup reads this blog, and finds a way to fix the system to where we the poets can NOT add more than one view per poem, especially in our own poems. However If you wonder how I get such a large amount of views, and why I am crying about it.... my comments and views all come from the support I offer, and the fact that I post poems randomly. That allows all poets interested in paying me a visit, to view my older poems. Which is why my views continue to grow on my old poems. Of course, I don’t mind the visits at all… LOL, I read the comments through my comment box. I am Sorry I had to vent on this subject,  I am bothers in knowing I can’t replay on a commenter comment, without adding 3 views on my poem.

PD, I keep forgetting to ask you. What does A stand for? You had it after your name Texas and now you have it after PD.

yes, PD (not Linda any more?) I have always thought it was ridiculous to go by "views" because that number is almost meaningless considering all the things you brought up here in this blog!!!

I took a week break from PS, came back to your pen-name being changed. Now it is changed back. Welcome back PD. I left an easy solution on Mandy's blog regarding uber-posting. There are filter scripts that poetry sites use. How it works is, if someone posts 100 poems in a day, all 100 poems show-up on the poet's list, but only 3 show up on the public "new" list(or wotever number, it can be decided on/changed). Poetry sites use similar scripts for views as well. Each member account can only officially register one view per if you click on your own poem 2000 times, only the FIRST click will ever register. Isn't this a straight-forward solution!? I sure think so.

Cyndi, your question isn't stupid at all(you already know the implications anyway). The solution is simple, but the application might not be, because tinkering with scripts can unravel a different function until everything is ironed-out. Here is my angle on this. The scripts are tinkered with how often? Just look at how many little options are being added. Since there are already issues with the scripts that come up, why not add a few more to iron-out while the site is wonky? Seriously though. If the site is already wonky, add the filtering scripts now while the techies patch things up. I for one would really enjoy it if the "New Poems" list was cleaned up. The benefits of longer list exposure for people who aren't as popular, are new, don't enter many contests to receive exposure, for the readers seeking more variety than the few people hogging the list space, far out-weighs a few days of possible script malfunction.

Oh, I guess that I didn't actually technically say/type the words. Yes, the Soup should definitely filter poems and views. This way, not only do us readers get a wider selection of possible candidates to choose to read on the list, instead of 7 or 8 people hogging the list(yes, I know, I know, there is the 'other' list), but it will cut down on possible animosity towards uber-posters, because some people do it innocently(and all the other excuses....I mean, reasons for doing so, such as moving a portfolio from one site to another, etc). I have posted joke pieces about uber-posting, fully realizing how in the end it isn't up to me to judge uber-posters. People can do as they wish. I am not in control of their actions.

YES! Does this script only need to be applied to the one page? Stupid question, I know, but if a solution is easy, then the other question is does Soup have another reason for not wanting this change... and I'm not following my own advice! ARGH. In the tiny box...sigh

are you saying the soup should filter poems and views... AGREED!!!!!!!

yes it is a straight-forward solution, I will click on my poems randomly, or read all my comments from the in boxes, Becca has a point, about the replies left behind, sometimes I will miss a few of them, because I don't go over my poems after a long while. I will start however.
