I believe that for 364 days we tell our kids not to talk to strangers..then one day a year we dress them up throw them on a fat man dressed in red's knee and tell them to smile.... For 364 days a year we teach our kids about stranger danger..then one day a year we tell them to go to sleep so a fat man in a red suit can come down the chimney... No wonder kids are so confused lol... As for the end of the world...Im just happy when tomorrow comes :D xxx

I understand the emotional attachment to Santa Claus -- the mind is a very complex entity. There are many reasons for the tradition, and several of the reasons had/have positive roots. Aside from the whole Santa thing, the Christian aspect of Christmas bothers me, because the historical Jesus(Yeshua ben Yosef)wasn't even born on December 24th. Actually, the historical Jesus doesn't resemble the biblical, mythological Jesus as much as many people would like to believe. Yes, there are some decent parallels here and there. Mythological figures who were born on December 24th, are Mithra and Horus(obviously these mythologies are far older than the biblical Christ mythology). Both Mithra and Horus were depicted as sons of God, born to a virgin mother. Both were born in a cave or manger, both their births were heralded by shepherds and a star in the east. Both were visited by wise men bearing gifts. Both Mithra and Horus were crucified at the age of 33, and were resurrected. Does any of this have implications towards people's cognitive reasoning? Not for too many people lol....

As far as the Armageddon Freaks go in a Christian sense, Revelation is the weaving together of texts written by 3 separate Johns. The most famous of the Johns, wrote Revelation in reference to Nero. That's it. Nero happened a long time ago.

First, we tell our children the story about Santa Claus. Then, after they are traumatized to realize we have lied all this time and our credibility is completely shot, we tell them that Christmas is not about a fat man in a red suit, living in the North Pole, who sprinkles magic dust so he can go down a chimney to bring us gifts, but it is really about a white man born in a predominately dark skinned country from a virgin mother whose real father lives in a place called heaven, who does magic we call miracles and rises from the dead after dying for our sins. Why would our children ever believe anything we say!?

I'm just waiting to hear what their explanation will be when these 'rapture' fanatics wake up on december 22nd and find themselves still here! lol as for global warming, it's one of the biggest scams in history, even scientists are coming out now and saying that it doesn't exist, but it's a good way of screwing more money out of people via carbon taxes and putting the frighteners on people at the same time, and bizarre weather patterns are often deliberately caused by chemtrails which have the ability to alter weather conditions, create tornadoes and so on, not to mention the cocktail of chemicals we are being showered with...

I am not too sure about the global warming angle in your comment. Global warming and cooling cycles, are purposeful mechanisms of the planet, and have been happening for hundreds of millions of years. But as a species, we have been speeding up the current cycle. I agree that fear-mongering is a powerful, negative tool. I hope you greet the 'Rapturists' with a hearty "Good Morning!", on December 22nd, 2012 ha ha!

You can type wotever you want, however many times....you know this. I was simply having too much fun down there. Sheeple are a fascinating species. I have come to the conclusion that sheeple aren't herbivores, but are quite carnivorous; cannibalistic even -- sort of like land-sharks covered in wool. They have a propensity for sniffing-out blood. Sheeple are easily programmable, especially by other sheeple. A sheeple can be told that apples don't grow on trees, and they will trick themselves into believing apples don't grow on trees....even as they pick an apple from a tree.

My Love, look, our avatars make Christmas colours....I like to see it as the colours of a fruiting cherry or apple tree :D (Hey, dun type such things(above), too many times, I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you. These Santa-believers take Santa very seriously....too seriously. They are a bit off-kilter and fanatical, if you ask me. And a lot of Santa-believers also believe in other strange things such as "Golden Gates", eternity up in the clouds, and this loony concept called "Armageddon". They are unstable and delusional, and should be treated with extreme caution....they are quite dangerous, but are decent enough at making themselves appear civil and friendly in a public atmosphere).

Ha ha! I'm not sure about the world ending, but do I think that something awful can happen at any time? Pretty much. Nuclear power is lethal, and we have not been looking after the power plants. Look at Fukushima. Then there is Iran and the weapons they are building. I'm not a fatalist. I don't think Dec 21st holds any significance. But I do wonder about the state of the planet, the damage we've done to the environment, what global warming is doing to the weather system (hurricanes, tornados) so I have no idea about the future and what it holds. Do any of us? I think the times are turbulent, but then again, history is no different. PS Francine you crack me up! LOL.

Yeah, humanity might be speeding-up the process of this current planetary cycle. There have been naturally occurring cycles of turbulence on this planet, for hundreds of millions of years.

funny how you tied santa to an unrelated topic. I think I do stuff like that too. hahaha. Good blog, Chris. No, I do not believe that mayan myth. Their calender simply ended there. However, if Utah gets that huge earthquake they have been expecting for the past 25 years and it happens on that day, I will become a believer!

Actually, as I understand it, the Mayan calender doesn't even end there, but a long cycle ends, and a short cycle begins(or the other way around?). Their calender cycles between long and short.

:P you are one fine piece of work LOL :P just like I don't believe in a literal Santa Claus or a flying disembodied [or bodied head in the sky]; just as I see all of the stories as STORIES with PERHAPS a grain of truth? [At some point in time there MAY have been a grain of truth LOL] The world has always been beginning and ending..and it would be lovely to look forward to a day when we were of one mind and heart [a KIND one, hopefully..oneness where there is sharing!] This greedy mindset is what I HOPE ends on 12/21/12..I'll have a toast of the local beverage for YOU! :)
