Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and three grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent nearly a decade now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines and for the website Shadow Poetry, and also, entering poetry contests herself.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems have appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry is published in eight chapbooks (the most recent one soon to be published is called Prosies), which can be purchased at

Gail's blog made me wonder about everyone here and how they might be celebrating Halloween tomorrow. My school is having half the day for activities and I'm going to be wearing my usual GYPSY outfit with the beautiful long auburn wig!

In the past I have also been a leprechaun with huge ears and turned up shoes. And I had an awesome Cleopatra outfit I wore 13 years ago before I got too big for it. gosh, I lent it to my young friend this year and when I saw her in it, I realized I must have been very small to have fit into it when I did. Another year I was a motorcycle dude using a blonde mustache and tattoos on my arms and I put a pillow under my tummy to look like a hefty guy. Also I was a motorcycle mama one year with leather clothes and a really cool wig with weaves in it.

Also, if you could name the scariest movie you ever saw, what would it be? I've seen so many that I can't even begin to name all the scary movies I've seen, so I am interested to know YOUR opinions on that!! In the old days, I would have said Psycho!!

last year I was Darth Vader..... I've been Finn & Jake from Adventure time this year without it being Halloween. I've been a sexy Elf twice...(Santa's Helper...) A gorilla. army gal.... the Sexiest Mrs. Clause. .... mostly I have fun dressing my kids... yes and I've paraded A unicorn costume. that was fun... hugs

I've seen alllll the terror/horror movies ... I really"enjoyed" Hostel (I) ... and another good one is "Wolf Creek" (Australian).

I too like a good plot. Hostel just surprised me, I think that its idea is possible in this sick world. I like Wolf Creek because is based on true events. I already watched Prisoners, impressive performance by Hugh Jackman ...but it's not a horror movie. : D
Dietrich Avatar Andrea Dietrich Date: 11/1/2013 9:19:00 AM Block poet from commenting on your poetry

I think I saw Wolf Creek. I saw two of the Hostel flicks. I go more for a good plot so even though they have a strange lure for me, I am avoiding shows like Hostel now. I noticed Australia sure has a lot of GREAT horror movies!!! You have to go see Prisoners currently in some theaters. That one is scary but an intelligent one too.

Hi Andrea..Happy Halloween to you! My best costume year I went to a party as a Gypsy Moth..I dressed as a gtpsy and put on fake wings and antennae...Another time I took and old pirate style shirt and glued video cases all over it...wore an eye patch and scarf around my head with a cable cord as a necklace...I was a Video Pirate...I bet you had some great costumes in the past besides the ones you mentioned...One of the scariest movies I ever saw was Jaws because I lived in Florida at the time and swam in the ocean all the petrified me this movie !!

Jaws is a GREAT movie. A classic for its time. I think you are one of the more inventive of the costume makers here!!

yes, real life IS scarier than Psycho, especially in today's world. Love your hooker story!!

We threw a Halloween party about 5 years ago, and everyone was told to come as a Movie theme (either current or an old movie). My husband came as "The Graduate" (an easy costume, with a cap & gown).. I wore junk mail stapled from head to toe to my clothes, you couldn't see what I was wearing underneath, I was all mail, and stamps all over my face ..(the movie theme from"You've Got Mail"...) Our guests included "Carrie", Ben Hur" "Butch Cassidy.and Sundance Kid" Batman.....Superman.....and so on. Best party we every had!

Ahhhh Halloween....signals the end of fall harvest....if only that were true. The crops are still coming in. But I had a moment so I wanted to swing by the blogs. I know you love Halloween, Andrea. I've seen you in some of those costumes in the front of your chapbook. The motorcycle dude was too funny...;) My favorite costume would have to be Rambo. I even have a mullet wig....haha. I wet as Wolverine a few years back and that was ok, except my tights kept riding up in the crotch. I was Robinhood (men in tights) last year, and again, the tights...not too comfy, but at least I got to carry my longbow. I think I'll go back to Rambo this year.

I spent many years as a nurse in long term care facilities. One year I made a long robe of sparkly material, used blue panty hose to cover my arms and head, with pipe cleaner and cotton ball antennas sticking out. I was going for the alien look but the patients thought I was a giant bug. Another year a co-worker and I got army camo fatigues. I wore the hat and shirt with my uniform bottoms. She wore the pants and boots with her uniform. We were an Upper and a Lower GI. It wouldn't have worked anywhere but in a medical facility. The scariest movie is absolutely Alfred Hitchcock's movie The Birds. As an adult I went into a commercial chicken house and that movie was all I could think about.

hahaha, that would be funny to see you in a chicken house after watching Birds. I think Halloween one was scarier than that one though. Last House on the Left. OMG!!! Loved your costume of the bug.

Hi Andrea One year I dressed as a California Raisin with a bunch of my girlfriends...forgive the pun ....but my favorite costume ever was when I dressed up as Elvira . long black wig, fishnets and all....There is a picture of me wearing that costume in My Photos above my Blogs......It was taken in 1998 so time passes by too fast. I wore it a few years in a row. I think 'Red Dragon' was a really horrific movie Ralph Fiennes performance was chilling. Will be fun te read about other costumes.
