Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and three grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent nearly a decade now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines and for the website Shadow Poetry, and also, entering poetry contests herself.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems have appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry is published in eight chapbooks (the most recent one soon to be published is called Prosies), which can be purchased at

WoW, it is so fun to see who did these!!! I have to say, when I read my number one winner by Connie, I just knew this had to be someone who knew ME very well. Connie has known me longer than anyone else on the winners list and she very cleverly described my favorite number FIVE as no other even tried to do!! Sandra, my other number one winner wrote a poem that also hit close to my heart. When I turned fifty, I began feeling the emotions of her poem. That's why I loved hers so much.

My other top poems, OUTSTANDING, and I had no clue who was writing them, Well, I did guess Constance's
Black. Her lovely style is unmistakable, but wow, Kash, what a beauty he gave me with Adieu. I had no clue it was Kash who wrote that one, but I should have guessed since he has been coming up with such gorgeous haiku lately, and his acrostic put me in mind of a haiku/tanka type poem. Another beauty was Shadow's Ivory. I loved how she used interesting examples of objects in that color to depict it. Eileen's Naive was personal and that made it endearing.  Seren's was funny and it very clearly captured the meaning of Bawdy. I loved how Joseph not only described but also SHOWED Rhyme in his acrostic. And I was very taken by the ending line of Tara's Flame acrostic. It made the acrostic much more special than if she had only described a flame all the way through. I have to make  special mention of Fifth by Leonora. (Thanks for sneaking in that cute birthday message to me through your poem, Leonora), and I admired Deb's extra inventive acrostic she did with Sleep. I think she called it palindrome style!

I also want to thank all who supported my contest. A big
Congrats to ALL my great winner. There were two others I really liked but they just had spelling problems and I needed to stick to my guns, so I left them off the list.

Andie you know how much trouble I had even following your derections LOL BUT I could have sworn, in the past, you told me you felt, an acrostic had to be about the word used ie: sleep was about sleep? I wish I didn't have that restriction stuck in my mind. I would have done a LONGER verse![probably wasn't even you who said it? I probably heard it some where at some time LOL]
