Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and three grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent nearly a decade now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines and for the website Shadow Poetry, and also, entering poetry contests herself.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems have appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry is published in eight chapbooks (the most recent one soon to be published is called Prosies), which can be purchased at

Frozen Yogurt, Anybody?

Blog Posted:7/19/2013 10:33:00 AM
Last week I visited a yogurt shop. I am so behind the times, I did not realize that today some of the more popular places are doing self-serve and having you WEIGH your dollops of ice cream or soft yogurt on a scale, where you get to see the enormous cost of whatever you have dropped into your cup!

Even going “light” and getting just two or three flavors, very small amounts of each, and using very few toppings, my cost was over three dollars. I think to get three large dollops with plenty of toppings would cost well over ten dollars!

Anyway, I got to thinking how fun it would be to see the flavors YOU would choose if you had your choice at a yogurt shop. You have up to twenty dollars, which means you can probably have at least six flavors of ice cream in your large cup. Which flavor(s) would you choose and what type of toppings? For example: peanuts, walnuts, cherries, cookie crumbles, little jelly candies, M & M's, toffee pieces, candy bar pieces, strawberry, chocolate, or butterscotch syrup, etc?

Here are the flavors as shown at TCBY (and I threw in a few other favorites of mine):

(white or yellow color)

Cookies and cream
Italian tart
Greek honey vanilla
Golden vanilla
banana foster
butter pecan
cake batter
caramel supreme
banana foster
spiced apple
salted caramel
pineapple splash

(pink color)

Pink lemonade sorbet
black cherry
fat free mountain berry
ruby red grapefruit
bubble gum

Chocolate malt
chocolate peanut butter
brownie batter
Dark chocolate
white chocolate mousse
white chocolate macademia
Bear Claws

We JUST got a Yogurty's in town... and we love it! Because I find it so sweet, depending on the flavour and topping, I can make do with very very little. My girl and I have both eaten there for $3.65 (no kidding!). Now, she IS only four and I just put a small dollop of chocolate and then one spoon of m&m's, a few sprinkles and a few "chocolate rocks" (they look like pebbles!) Hers usually costs about $1.40. I am in love with the dulche de leche. I just put in...hmmm...about 1/4 of a cup. Then I decadently top it with a few salted caramels AND Caramel sauce. I don't layer the flavours... I Just add texture to ONE flavour (like buying one of those perfume gift packages during the holidays... bubble bath, lotion, talc and perfume, all the same scent! WHAMMY! LOL). It's so sweet it is ALMOST overwhelming. I think if I had the plain with berries I'd spend $9! The indulgence is small but sheer ambrosia... nice blog!

Cyndi, I am imaging you with a very slender model's figure. Geez, I bet you are the one person, when Lays' potato chips says "bet you can't eat just one" you are able to win the bet!! Dulce de Leche. Now there is one I forgot to include. I LOVE that flavor.

Before I read closely your comments, I will tell MY six I would choose and then I'll see whose dessert is most like mine! I would take banana foster/butter pecan/spiced apple/ salted caramel/chocolate peanut butter/ and for a bit of fruity: the ruby red grapefruit. I'd put caramel and walnuts and toffee pieces over almost everything and also chocolate sauce. On the fruit flavor, I'd put lots of raspberries! This is not even my favorite kind of dessert actually but once in a while, it's fun to do this kind of thing!! Now let me go see what everyone has ordered!!

YUM. My flavours would definitely be butter pecan, caramel supreme, salted caramel, chocolate peanut butter, brownie batter, and white chocolate macadamia. And I wouldn't be opposed to sprinkling some peanuts and M&Ms on top ;)

YES!! There is something SO satisfying about sweet AND salty. You have fantastic taste, if I do say so myself ;) And I will absolutely try Chubby Hubby. Thanks for the suggestion!
Dietrich Avatar Andrea Dietrich Date: 7/19/2013 4:48:00 PM Block poet from commenting on your poetry

ok, I have found the person who thinks the most like ME. I see you are wild for salty things too!!! After the ones I chose above, the macadamia would be next on my list!! And Heather have you ever tasted Ben and Jerry's CHubby Hubby? You would love it.

ANDREA....I'm more into gooey chocolaty deserts like lava cake with an ice cream scoop or chocolate.....anything that simply melts in the mouth. I'll have ice cream...but never a first choice for desert. Hmmmm...having said that...cookies and cream, caramel supreme, cheesecake, brownie batter x 3....please. You did say 6 scoops. Can I have 3 scopes only and a chocolaty desert? ;) WHY IS THERE NO MINT???? Fruit ice cream..yucky! M & Ms for topping! Oh....I make the best brownies ever! Move over Betty Crocker!!! Want some to go with your ice cream, Andrea? ;)

I usually prefer another kind of dessert too, Eileen. But with all the great topics, you can almost have cake IN your icecream. I see you like caramel. That is a must for me in a favorite desserts!
  1. Date: 7/19/2013 11:00:00 AM
Since I am allergic to ice cream it would have to be yogurt and strawberry would be my favorite and for toppings candy bar pieces and strawberries with chocolate syrup. I am a chocolate kinda gal.
