What can I say?  My picture above shows you that I have lived a long time.  It was taken in 2008 for our church registry.

I was a stay at home mom until my last child was in school.  I was widowed when I was forty four and was glad that I was already employed at the local radio station.  I stayed in the same job for thirty years and after I retired at 65 and took a trip to Europe with a friend, I started working again and stayed for another ten years.  I have only been writing poetry since 1999 when I wrote to relieve my grief when my only son died.  I married again four years after my husband died and was widowed again in 1995.  I am an avid gardener and belong to two local garden clubs and am on the board of the district club and state garden club so have lots of meetings to attend. I have my own poetry corner in the state garden club's publication. I live in my home by myself and rent my farm land to a local bulb grower.  I am surrounded by beauty.  All of mv family lives close to me.  Two daughters, six grandchildren,
eleven great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. We live in Washington State in Northwest Washington and love it here.

My week

Blog Posted:6/8/2012 6:20:00 PM
As I wrote in an earlier blog, I have not been around much this week because of a garden club convention I am heavily involved in.  We had 138 people register and the events were going off well as planned, until disaster.

We started off with a banquet on Tuesday evening followed by a program of local singers and our star of the evening Was Graham Kerr (The Galloping Gourmet)  speaking. That was fine but it lasted until ten pm and I knew I had to be be back again at 7 am.

There were events all day Wednesday .  At 6 pm I was still at the registration but was closing up as the dinner hour had arrived. The folks were gathered around me, waiting for the doors to open for dinner and program.  Some were still sitting on the couches conversing.  Suddenly someone was frantically calling for 911 and I went to see who was in trouble.  I was horrified to find my friend and the president of my little club, slumped over on the couch.  I patted her cheeks and called to her but got no response.  Then someone started cpr and kept it up until the medics arrived.  I sat frozen as they tried to get her heart going.  I guess I was crying because the ladies started circling around me so that I couldn't see what they were doing and then after she was taken in the ambulance they wouldn't let me get in the car and follow or to go home.  I had to call my daughter to come and get me.  It was such a shock to see someone perfectly happy and alive one moment and gone the next.  Yes, she was dead on arrival at the hospital.  I spent my evening calling members of our club and I begged off for a few hours the next morning but went back for the noon meal and program as I was chairman for the children's poetry and they were to be given their awards at that time. The day's activities stretched to ten oclock  in the evening again on Thursday and this morning Friday I had to be back at my post at 7 am.  I had to give the credentials report so again could not beg off.  It is over now and after my friends funeral next Tuesday, maybe I can get caught up on congratulations for the winners and thanks for comments on my poetry.  You seem to be marching along without me.  Love, Joyce

As horrible as it was... she went surrounded by friends and undoubtedly doing some thing she loved. It might make you feel better if everyone didicated the next garden club event in her honor.... I'm sorry for your loss... true friends are few and far between. Such a sudden loss. So shocking and tragic... But she is with God. Events like this make us question our own mortality... Still we endure... I give you my love and condolences in this time of loss...

Joyce, my heart goes out to you. I lost a friend last Friday and was not half so busy as you. It hit very hard. Take time to grieve and do not feel any guilt. Love and hugs.
