The Phlebotomist gored my arm

with a sipping straw size needle

missing the vein in my forearm.

She then began to fiddle it

around inside every which way

never concerned the slightest bit

about my pain; I pulled away

with an excruciating yelp.

Her perfunctory, “I’m sorry”

made matters worse. Sorry my ass,

I thought. I wondered how many

times a day she utters those words.

I said to her, that’s enough miss,

I’m not into masochism.

    Oh, Albert, I know what you mean and feel. My husband has no more veins left due to Phlebotomy :( I went inside the room when he had one of his Phlebotomies done. Just awful...

    As a teacher, molding young students into adults, we don't get a "sorry, let me try agian". If I mess up, it is soimeone's whole life. On the other hand, there are the hugs one often gets when a student realizes we really are trying to help them.

    the last young lady who did that to me, left two huge bruises on my arms. Awful. I can do better. (Of course, I was trained! LOL) Hugs, Catie :)

    The rebuttal to this poem is so sad, friend..The phlebotomists are in a blood drawing frenzy mode with drastic cutbacks..now she has to draw twice as many patients blood in the same amount of time..she is more stressed than before and can only stick you twice..she shouldn't go deep sea fishing in your dear arm though...and you are right, "SORRY" doesn't seem to help at all. She's a victim too..AND IT STINKS! This morning at the hospital one phlebotimist drew 15 patients blood in one hour...That is terrible stress...these are chronically ill patients with poor veins...I love these kinds of poems that show the human emotion of behind being a patient! Medical folks need to read these! *Hugs to you....Gwendolen
