My family, especially my daughters Libby and Mandy
My job
being by the sea
walking in the country
dancing in the rain
music
reading
writing (wouldn't be here if I didn't)
being with friends
dark nights by the fire with a good book and wine
long soaks in the bath
the wind through a windchime
the sun on my face
all wildlife

Hates
nothing but a few things irritate not worth mentioning

Has had to re-invent myself following the death of my husband 2 years ago and I've learned that I am a stronger person than I thought and that true friends stand by you when others walk away.

I have had to learn to do things by myself and I've made solo journeys, surprised how happy and content I can be with my own company.

My philosophy - CARPA DEUM (seize the day) - for there may never be a tomorrow

Sounds familiar???
Blog Posted:4/8/2010 8:43:00 AM

Being awake at 4am this morning (I was having one of my bad nights) I was aware of the most beautiful spring dawn chorus. The road on which I live is the most beautiful victorian tree lined road (a picture is posted) and in the spring and autumn looks particulary fabulous as the new buds grow and colours change and beyond the end of our road is a river the countryside. Because of this we have an array of our feathered friends who come at this time of the year to nest in them. Their song this morning brought light to what had turned out to be a really black night for me (as most people will be aware - I lost my husband eight weeks ago) and was so uplifting that I couldn't help but be soothed by it - indeed listening to them - I finally drifted off to sleep again until the postman woke me up at 7.30 and then I was up and at em! There are so many sounds in the world which fill you with wonder and awe and it made me think about other sounds which have fond memories - like the waves lapping the shore where Billy and I used to go fishing, or the sound of the crowd at our local footballs team ground where we went without fail until Billy became ill. It also made me wonder what sounds are my fellow soupers particular favourites and or what sounds bring a special memory. Love to you all - I hope spring is coming your way and you are having sunny days. Love Janette

Thank you all so much for your welcome comments and your thoughts and best wishes - I have made this into a competition and I hope you will all contribute. I too love the sound of the wind and the the rain. When I was younger, I would go out into the garden and just sit when it was windy - I used to love the sound it made and the way it brushed through my hair - my siblings all thought I was nuts!!!!!

Janette, yes, familiar sounds of nature can bring healing....and I wish you many more....one in particular I enjoy, is the soothing sounds of Red-Winged Blackbirds in the cattails around a pond I walk... their call and response fills my soul....many blessings your way, jimbo

Spending a lot of time over the years in the mountains, the sound of wind through the tall pines is such a beautiful sound to me. Rain on the rooftops so soothing. Sounds that make me smile...there's a donkey out in the pasture behind our house...his "hee-haw" makes me laugh, and the sound of my grandkids laughing,..it's the best sound in the world. Thinking of you, Janette...and hope that you are finding a bit of peace in your heart, dear friend...not easy, but your spirit shines!

I have to be at work very early in the am, and the sound I love and want to hold all day, is the quiet and peace in dawn, and the haunting birds, calling to each other, echoeing in the trees... nothing is more beautiful... and Janette, I feel your pain in each word, you write, I wish, I could brush the tears away, dear heart... love Constance

It is raining today and I have been having trouble sleeping for several nights. After it started raining, I drifted off. Rain, waves and songs of birds are very comforting to me, Janette. Sometimes at night I'll think of a babbling brook or ocean waves and the mere thought of these sounds helps me sleep. (Counting sheep actually works for me too.) Love, Carolyn

Yes Janette it is those precious memories that stay with us a life time. Mine was the moment my children and grandchild were born. To hear them cry and bringing new life into the world was perfect. There are so many sounds like the birds singing or the sound of a waterfall or even the sound of rain falling on the roof. So many wonders in this world, so much beauty, so much to absorb. God Bless Phyl

Janette, If i never said before, sorry for your loss. It's amazing how some of the contests are going with the seasons, such as the animal contest by Deb. I find that birds are the greatest symbol of spring, by far. fAvorite sounds for me: popcorn popping is way up there! Birs (as long as they don't awaken me too early) , bubbling brooks, And of course, a really good singer! Gotta run back to class.LUv, andrea
