Dane Ann Smith-Johnsen was born, reared, and now resides in Florida.  She is a down to earth kind of woman with a nurturing love for her fellow man.  Dane's quests for knowledge throughout her life, and her curious desire for adventure have blessed her endlessly.  She is the mother of three wonderful children, who grew up all too soon.  Why must they do that?  She currently basks in her role as a “doting grandmother...and a plant fiend!”

“Renaissance Woman” as one of her former professors called her fits Dane rather well.  She has so many interests in the ordinary things of life as well as a very BROAD BASED formal education, including: two college degrees, a Bachelor of Science Degree in the Sciences and a Master’s degree in Public Administration.  Dane also earned many post baccalaureate credits (60+ in Fine Art and about 27 in Education.)

Besides the great diversity in her education, Dane is multi-talented in the arts and loves gardening.  She enjoys the four P’s: photography, painting, poetry and plants.  Some of Dane’s paintings and photography are posted on  The following link will take you directly to her art and digital design gallery.

Her family, friends, photography and plants may be seen on facebook

Please also visit her plant exchange group as well.  Especially if you live in the Suwannee Valley area. SuwanneeValleyFlowerandPlantExchange/.com

Last, but not least, Dane is a published poet.  Her book, “100 Poems for Life” is available through and Publish, at:  Email Dane directly at with your inquiries  about signed copies.

Shall We Help Adeleke Adeite?

Blog Posted:6/21/2012 5:28:00 AM
Our Poet friend,  Adeleke Adeite used to be writing on Poetry Soup often for all of us to enjoy his excellent poetry.  But he no longer has access to the computer he used to use. He has been trying to save up for a new computer and is about two-thirds there.  He has been saving for so long that I was thinking that if 25 poets sent him $10.00 each, he would have enough to buy the computer and get connected to Internet.  (I think.)  I would actually be willing to send $50.00, but I could not send more.  I was wondering whether anyone else could help, too.

So, I thought I would check with you poets to see what you think about the idea.  Shall we help Aeleke?

Adeleke Posts through poetrysoup mobile once in a while and I have remained in contact with him over the years through facebook.  We have co-written a few poems and I consider him a friend.  That is why I am trying to help him.
What do you all think?

If you wish to help Adeleke, please contact me via soupmail.

Thank you all for reading...and caring.

I want to say a very big thank you to Dane for being this great gesture, this month marks my 6th year on poetrysoup and it is so amazing to see how wide soupworld has grown and how wild the soupwarmth is at the moment. Thanks to those who are supporting, I can't thank you enough. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks. I will be glad to be back on track here. If this comment gets posted, it must be a stroke of luck.

Well...we have 4 commitments and an inquiry. That's a good start! I'll post again when this gets to the bottom of the page...and update as checks are received. 4x10=40 + 50 = 90. We've got a good start. Please help if you can. I will soupmail my address and will hold checks until I have received all that we need...UNLESS you ask me to cash them right away...I prefer to hold them, though. Thanks to those of you who have committed to help so far! May God bless you for your kindness and trust in fellow man.

Sorry I disappeared everyone. I did not have access to a computer for the last few days. I read the comments. Debbie, thank you so much for your information. I'll check with Western Union to see how much it would cost to send $250.00 I am will to hold the money and post new blogs to keep everyone updated on how much we have raised. This is such a great experience to US...being able to help a friend that has a big heart. Sorry Adeleke that I disappeared in the middle of this. An opportunity suddenly came up that I couldn't pass up. Thank you to everyone for your trust. I'll be checking and sending soupmail, next.

Hi Dane, I'm willing to send the ten dollars to you for you to hold until you get enough to make it worthwhile to Western Union. Soupmail me your address and I'll send cash. I think that would be easier for you. If you have another plan, please let us know. I would really love to help Adeleke.

Though this is a great idea, it is NOT as easy as it sounds. For those wishing to participate it would involve ALOT of TRUST. The only safe for everyone way to send money to Africa [most 3rd world counries i think] is western union since no one SHOULD send a check with all that info [routing #'s addresses etc.] and it is best for the person recieving to get the money in the denomination of their country [western union does this & protects personal data at a FEE] sending a small amount costs more than the amount you are sending [I sent 25 dollars and I think it cost me about 50 total to do it.] So 1 of us would need to HOLD the collection until we reached a desent amount to send we can't send 10 bucks at a time.

Carol, He does use his phone a lot on the Internet, but it has limitations. We used to co-write and we cannot do that, now, because you can only send about 1,000 words at a time. So, I do have an ulterior motive! BIG SMILES. I want to be able to write more with him. We have dreamed of publishing an International book together and it has been on hold for way too long. Since he lost use of the computer, I think we wrote one with great difficulty editing, etc. So, I hope we can help him. I have chosen to trust him instead of wondering...IF he is just playing a game, which I DO NOT THINK he is, it will be between him and God because my intentions and actions are pure.
