Boxing Day - More Shopping???
Blog Posted:12/26/2013 10:00:00 AM

Boxing Day is traditionally the day following Christmas Day when servants and tradesmen would receive gifts, known as a "Christmas box", from their employers. Today, Boxing Day  gennerally takes place on 26 December. It is observed in the UK, Canada, Hong Hong, Australia,  New Zealand, South Africa, Trinidad and Tabago and some other Commonwealth nations.

In S. Africa, Boxing Day was
renamed Day of Goodwill in 1994. In Ireland and Italy, the day is known as St.
Stephen’s (Irish: Lá Fhéile Stiofáin) or the Day of the Wren (Irish:
Lá an Dreoilín). In many European countries, including
Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and Scandinavia, 26 December is celebrated as
the Second Christmas Day.

The only thing I would want boxed is my sons smile! LOL What about you?
Are you going shopping again??

Well, I gave a box of candy to all the people who help me the bank teller, my Dr. office, the wait staff at my favorite restaurant & the kitchen staff, a treasured object of my jewelry to Smoky the cat's, cat sitter, and little ring boxes of mine to two dear friends. Yes, as Dee said give what you have loved & still love, to some one you love, and it doesn't cost a lot of money!

I spent boxing day in the hospital. woo and hoo. Finally succumbed to husband's wishes and saw a doc. So, they won't give antibiotics anymore, unless you are bleeding from an orifice or foaming at the mouth, but apparently they are willing to dole out narcotics like they are reeses pieces. I walked out with a prescription to codeine. It will stop me from coughing at night, oh, yeah, and put me into a stupor. frick. No, I shopped thrift this year, mostly. You know what a smart man my hubby is. CHRIS? YOU THERE? YOU MAY LOVE THIS! He signed out books from the library for me that he knew I'd enjoy reading. Gift wrapped them with a note saying he'd make sure I'd have time to read. LOVE HIM!

Sorry to hear that you are sick, Cyndi. What about my lemon tea recipe that I gave you last year? : ) Take care and happy New Year.

That sucks, sorry to hear about your sickness and hospital visit, Cyndi. Hmmmm, narcotics over antibiotics, eh? A typical sign of the times, I suppose. Try unpasteurized honey(has to be unpasteurized though), it has natural antibiotics in it that don't discriminately kill everything in the system(which of course can cause more havoc in the long run). Yeah, that's a super-cool idea for a Christmas gift! I've only ever heard of some crazy hippies doing that on the West Coast....and this was years ago.

oh thanks for the lesson. That explains why we don't have boxing day in the U.S. I never had an employer giving me anything before OR after christmas!!! Like Chris, I am totally disgusted by the insanity known as Black Friday, but in the old days I kind of liked going out after xmas using any money I had gotten as a gift to shop for sales. You see, I often buy NEXT year's gifts for my family members when they go on sale after Xmas!!! It is a fun way to get gifts.

No shopping today for me. How disgusting can we be as a species? There is virtue, goodness and beauty to be found in the human species, but overall, we are the most deplorably disgusting species ever. Why? Because we have the intellect, knowledge and foresight to understand the consequences of our actions, yet we continue down a collective path of destruction, gluttony, greed, sloth and apathy. I mean come on, we defecate in our life-force water, then wipe with oxygen-providing trees....it doesn't get more backwards than that -- as a species we are a parasitic disease, yet people proclaim how advanced we are, which can make sense considering how advanced super-viruses are becoming. The masses are hypnotized by their idiot-boxes, and people are busy....busy doing inane things, paying money to be entertained by someone else, buying, always buying more un-needed, city-dump filler, flitting from inanity to inanity, pushing buttons, stuffing faces, doing all the 'nothings' which have been deemed as societal 'somethings'. 70% of wot we do as a species with regards to 'happiness', hobbies, pastimes, are unhealthy on a physical, emotional and spiritual level, but when one lemming goes over the edge, the rest follow suit. But hey, if it "makes you happy", then live and let live right?(lol). Anyway, that's why I hang-out with tree-huggers and the arts community -- we are guilty participants in the destruction of the planet just like everyone else, but it is the guilty awareness that brings us together in the hopes of doing our part in curtailing our extinction in the here and now.
