A Dream in the Mist
by Carry Richards

The mountain peaks in colored sugar coat
Of pinks and blues and lilac violet hues
The sky, just before sunrise, all windless and clear
The day is misty, bitter cold, and crystal sheen
But I am warmed by one small ray of golden morning light

From high upon a perch of snow top crest
A lone stag with graceful legs that fly
Carving out a quiet trail, like fleeting wind
The sound so soft, the hush of whispered steps

He halts, and looks at me with logic's eyes
And seems to smile in recognition,
His golden crown of antlers, gleam in morning sun
Just when I thought my crystal world would splinter
He tilts his head, and bids me to come
And like an eagle's wing, remote and sure
He darts away, just like a bird
Without a sound

Beauty of the wind....beauty of pure grace
I run after him, panting and breathless,
Through the glimmering, in search of answers
But, I cannot keep up, as he disappears without a trace
And still not wringing the answers from the slightest sound
Yet, I am left alone, and feel at peace

Cyanide by Cyndi MacMillian

I drank cyanide from your lying lips,

Just for one touch, I’ve embraced rusted nails,

Pain remains, but all reason slowly slips.

The world has disappeared, a full eclipse,

Hanging trees reach out with their branches frail,

I drank cyanide from your lying lips.

Each curl you kissed is gone, quick, little snips,

Flames ate our letters in a blackened pail,

Pain remains, but all reason slowly slips.

Mail piles on the wet floor while the tap drips,

Walls pull me to corners that clutch and wail,

I drank cyanide from your lying lips.

Numbly like a ghost, our photos I rip,

But your eyes cremate and your smile impales,

Pain remains, but all reason slowly slips.

Love is weak, it beseeches, crawls then nips,

Yet your train left on sturdy, silent rails,

I drank cyanide from your lying lips,

Pain remains, but all reason slowly slips.

Double Phantasy by Charlotte Puddifoot

Mama, did you know the precious amethyst shadow hours
I spent beside you, cuddled cosy-close, nestled in blankets of light,
shawled in your red-gold hair? I kissed each tear you cried;
each one a starlight pearl forged from the depths
of your fragile soul. I rocked seashell-shut to each lullaby note
and silently watched as you rocked my cold, empty cradle.
Sometimes you sensed me coiled at your breast -
a small balled knot of grief. You felt my tiny fingers plucking at you
as tingling shivers. And sometimes I bounced sunshine-free
on your knee, a giggling orb of light.

Little one, once again I felt you here,
entombed in the womb of this eternal everywhere room,
your spirit sifting through my fingers like hourglass sand.
Pain has blanked my mind wraith-white, but I felt
your lips nip the warm rosebuds of my nipples
as I pressed a lullaby to the delicate shell of your ear
and brief blessed seconds spun out like years.
My sentient heart will always hold you, my grip will never slip
as my earthbound hands, human-warm, reach through time
and heather-shadowed ether to love and care for you.

MY Emotional Geography by Kash Poet

Why should I let you know

my emotional geography?

Where does that valley of pain lie surrounded by

the foggy mountains of unwinged desires?

From where those tearful rivers start their journey

meeting at the ocean of sorrow?

How in a gloomy evening the veil of twilight

weeps over its own reflection below?

And some melancholy engulfs me whispering

in my ear a sorrowful melody?

Tell me,why should I?

Is anyone having trouble understanding what to do?

I visited your four poems, Alfred. Let me rephrase my early statement, I want to express it more clearly: YES, those four writers are four of our best writers. You may say that it's just my opinion, but ... believe me, I know what Im talking about. You should visit their poems ... I always learn something from them. ; ) Peace and love and respect.

Best is such a subjective judgement which is probably the most wonderful thing about art--there's some for everyone. Freddie, Ruben is one of the good guys here and all he was saying was that these poets are excellent and he is correct in my opinion. Are they the top notch best--good god man--like I said it's subjective but you talk about f---kn criticism when you actually insulted Ruben and the poets above---what comes around (you know the end)! And Debbie clearly said if anyone has a better idea do it---there ain't many contest hosts that would go that far. DONE

Freddie, he did not proclaim them the top four, he said they were four of our best. You just included Andrea and Carrie and said outstanding, I agree. My man Freddie thou protest too much about the semantics of hyperbole and wouldn't you agree that, going back to the beginning, our time can be more fruitfully invested?

I love all of these poets and their works, Deb. Great selection, as Ruben says. This kind of contest is not always easy for some people. but I am sure it will catch on, especially if you keep giving outstanding examples such as these!
