New Contest
Blog Posted:12/5/2012 11:47:00 AM

Hi everyone I had so many good entries to the 6 line contest! We are moving on to seven lines now and I would like it if some of you TRIED the Rodelet...

The significance of the number seven.

Nachmanides (12th century Spain) explains a beautiful kabbalistic concept: Seven is the number of the natural world. There are 7 days in the week, 7 notes on the musical scale and 7 directions (left, right, up, down, forward, back and center). “Seven” -
represented by the 7 days of Sukkot, is the world of nature.

SO...it would be nice if you did a nature verse BUT no required!

The Rondelet is a French poetry form meaning "round." It is made up of
two rhymes with a seven line stanza. The lines have 8 syllables and the refrain
has 4 syllables with a pattern of 4/8/4/8/8/8/4. The repeated lines may be
varied with punctuation but with the exact same words. The rhyme scheme with a refrain is A/b/A/a/b/b/A. An example follows each line in parentheses.

An example, with pattern:

A Outside the gate, (refrain)
b Away, the notice is sending -
A Outside the gate, (refrain)
a Come clopping hooves in dusty state,
b Long-planned journey thus is ending,
b Here arrives an old befriending,
A Outside the gate. (refrain)

Leaves in the wood
(Ever young, ever old) -
Leaves in the wood,
A haven where a promise stood.
She keeps their colors; silver, gold
The sun and moon here both enfold
Leaves in the wood.

**YOU MAY GIVE ME ANY VERSE IN 7 LINES 1 FORM OR A COMBINATION OF FORMS, PERFERANCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE TRYING THE RONDELET**

Please feel free to ask questions here or in soup mail Light & Love
