Hello Friends of the Soup.   I am constantly learning from all of you, and writing is something I love, but never made time for until now. I have always been a California girl, born and raised in the southern part of the state, now living in upper Northern California. Surrounded by mountains, and beautiful scenery, I have great inspiration.   I think I have always loved to create, it comes from my Dad, and his dad, I suppose. Although my mother was the rock of the family, my Dad was the dreamer, and a cowboy at heart. I grew up with horses that he raised, and memories of him singing around a campfire on trips we took. He wrote poetry, and his own songs, and played guitar.  His father did the same thing when my dad was a boy.  My grandfather was a trail guide, in the early l900's in Yosemite Nat'l Park, where my dad lived as a child.  My purpose in life has been family. I am married to my High School sweetheart,  we went to college together, I taught school for awhile, then raised two fine sons (both H.S. teachers) and a beautiful daughter.  Have 5 grandchildren who we adore, and fortunately they all live fairly close by.  I've had a small catering business, but now we are both retired, live in the country on a couple of acres, with rangeland behind us.  We are down to one dog, after a mix of this and that!  No horses, although horses, cattle, coyotes, and all kinds of wildlife live behind our place. Our kids are gifted musicians, and one son writes poetry that blows me away, some which has been published. I love poetry and piano, all music, movies, camping, our little cabin in the mountains, but especially my family.  And I love Poetry Soup..and all the wonderful company here!

Hey soupers, as I was sitting here reading all the wonderful new poetry yesterday, your poems were so exciting and wonderful, that they actually shook me up!! It was only later, that I found out it was a Northern California earthquake that happened to drop by for a visit! And here, all that time, I thought it was your wonderful vibes, comments, and inspiration that had me on the edge of my seat!! LOL !! I give mother nature the credit yesterday....however, most of the time, it is you, my friends who "MOVE ME !! " (no, I'm not packing my bags....a little shake here and there doesn't scare me! :)

When we were kids we thought we could do that all by ourselves. My son was in Calif when San Fran had the earthquake. Scary thought. Hopefully the last for a century or two. God Bless. Vince

We had a minor earth shake one time here in my part of Canada and it was pretty scary.. my high rise building shook... plates in the china cabinet fell... then nothing.. took me a bit to get over that... so I think you are very brave to take it so lightly... my gosh the next day I was preparing a disaster kit... and stocking up on canned goods... I think I have that somewhere...

Carrie, I'm delighted to hear you are okay. I am in agreement with your blog. There will always be little shakes here and there and if we live in fear we can never enjoy ourselves. Thanks...Raul

Carrie, I'm glad you didn't get hurt in the earthquake! Mother Nature and God were watching over you. And it really is great the way Soup members provide comfort to us, isn't it? Happy New Year, my friend. Love, Carolyn

Thanks for thinking of me....however we were more on the fringe...it was the coast that was hit harder. Also, as we live in the rural countryside, we have no tall structures or skyscrapers to worry about. I do have to admit, that when we visit San Francisco...I think about it a lot more seriously!! Give me the country life!! LOL !

I heard about the earthquake this morning! I don't know if I could live some place where there's always a threat of a shake up - Though I live in NYC, and we could have shake ups of a man made explosive kind at any time! Glad you're okay

Hi Carrie, read about it in the paper this morning. I was raised in Humboldt Co..lots of quakes in that area. I think we are "neighbors" I live in Vacaville, near Sacramento... BG
