Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and three grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent nearly a decade now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines and for the website Shadow Poetry, and also, entering poetry contests herself.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems have appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry is published in eight chapbooks (the most recent one soon to be published is called Prosies), which can be purchased at Shadowpoetry.com.

My Latest Contest & A GREAT new movie BOYHOOD

Blog Posted:8/2/2014 8:04:00 PM

Today I saw a really nice movie, nearly three hours long, but a real delight! Though the focus of the movie is on the life of a boy played by the young actor Ellar Coltrane, I was very impressed by actress Patricia Arquette, who plays a single mom raising two kids and trying to better herself by getting a degree. In the process she remarries two more times and faces more disappointment. The father, played by Ethan Hawke, is the fun weekend dad who also delivers a stellar performance. The most interesting thing about this movie is how it was filmed over the span of twelve years. I did not know this for sure until I got home and was happy to discover that the boy of the first several scenes was actually the same person as the "grownup" boy who graduates and goes off to college! The movie does not have any really big conflict in it, and that is often the hallmark of great drama; however, as a sincere and interesting coming-of-age movie, it delivers! You most likely won't find this movie in a small city, but I hope you will seek it out. It was just so fascinating to see a movie in which the actors had given their performances over the span of twelve years! I will give a link to the movie's trailer at the bottom here.

Finally, I hope you will check out my new contest:  Leaf/ Feather/ Shell/ Flake.

I'll try to check it out Andrea...The only 'new' movie I have seen is 'Lone Survivor'. It was hard to keep up with because it moved so fast but the ending was fantastic...Being a veteran who served in the Navy, I was proud of those frogmen!

I have heard of the movie, it is an interesting premise. I will keep an eye out for it. Now as long as no one pokes me in the other eye, I should be okay. I will also check out your contest with my third eye and pray for inspiration in the process.
