Life is an infinite continuum, feeding on its own death. Our mortality, real and imagined, lives within. We can always see these truths with a discerning eye. The mirrored images that seem like two, are but one, a parallel universe whose paths cross like a wisp of wind, we are all of one time, like prose and poems written in separate centuries, but of the same struggle. There, always there, truth never hides, except for those who don’t seek it for fear of what they might find. From light to dark we fly in different directions though toward the same destination. What matters is what we do on our flight. Do we see the paths of leaves as they float on the pond, the reflection of the sky beyond, and the trees, who have now shed their leaves but will reflect full in the spring; beneath the leaves, the roots of the lily pads and the stare of a wary carp who looks from his world as we do from ours? We must find time on our journey to read, play a game, or simply sit and wonder at the marvels around us, for death will come in its own time…

Lyrics Contest Judged

Before I head out for the rest of the weekend (my sister has a place at the lake and she still suffers me, and I her) I would like to pay homage to the winners of the lyrics contest.  It is somewhat unfortunate now that I’m “almost” sick of the song because I must have listened to it ----wayyyy too many times, while trying to do these lyrics justice, but perhaps some time away will make the melody fresh once more.  It’s somewhat frightening that we tire of things we love – and sad, because we mustn’t take them for granted.  Anyway, not to belabor further, 7th place goes to our man Freddie and the only reason it’s 7th is because I wanted lyrics to the melody but his poem was too good to leave out of the mix and close enough to the melody to be considered for esthetic value and the temperament of the melody can be felt in the write.  In 6th place, Roy, I’m glad you made it back from vacation to enter the contest and those that haven’t listened on you tube, do it, Roy you’ve got some great pipes! I love the write Roy and the use of the “hook” “But I loved you so, and you loved me so”.  Mandy and Seren, the two UK gals, tied for 4th—I love the simple but not simplistic themes both of love but each from their own angle.  Cyndi, 3rd because you were right there with the melody ,almost too deep,  but I think you walked that line between poetry and lyrics and the analogy of you and the personification of sympathy for the guitar! The two tied for first were out-of-the-park perfect with the melody and exactly what I was looking for with your lyrics—subdued, memorable—Carrie’s “ I don’t want to know” is something listeners would be humming and Isaiah’s lyrics would have the gals swooning. Congrats to all!!

Haha! Thanks so much, Craig! I hope someone is there to catch them when they go kerplop! (Not a very romantic word is it?) Anyway, too bad about the tune wearing off. I hope it does freshen up for ya. Much obliged for your words of praise for my humble poem. Isaiah.

Oh goodness, Craig....thanks so much! That was such a beautiful, yet complex melody to write lyrics for. I too, listened and listened to it, trying to match words to the guitar notes.. and so glad you liked it. I suggest to each entry, the readers listen to the music at the same time they read the entries...I just did that with Isaiah's wonderful poem....and it is even more beautiful....as are the other entries! Thanks for a difficult, but fun challenge...you got some creative and wonderful new songs. And thanks for introducing me to a lovely piece of music! :)
