Life is an infinite continuum, feeding on its own death. Our mortality, real and imagined, lives within. We can always see these truths with a discerning eye. The mirrored images that seem like two, are but one, a parallel universe whose paths cross like a wisp of wind, we are all of one time, like prose and poems written in separate centuries, but of the same struggle. There, always there, truth never hides, except for those who don’t seek it for fear of what they might find. From light to dark we fly in different directions though toward the same destination. What matters is what we do on our flight. Do we see the paths of leaves as they float on the pond, the reflection of the sky beyond, and the trees, who have now shed their leaves but will reflect full in the spring; beneath the leaves, the roots of the lily pads and the stare of a wary carp who looks from his world as we do from ours? We must find time on our journey to read, play a game, or simply sit and wonder at the marvels around us, for death will come in its own time…

The Rose

Blog Posted:4/19/2013 11:50:00 AM
Wanted to follow up Becca's blog with this that pertains. I think to both lovers and friends and all in between--Written by Amanda McBroom

                                                                 "The Rose"

Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
An endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
And you its only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
Who cannot seem to give,
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose.

I like the figurative language that is used in this piece. " love is a flower and you its only a seed". Very nice...

'frank says she wrote this in a matter of minutes. It's so wonderful when a good poem comes so effortlessly to the writer!!

Andrea, Isn't it true though that so many of our really good poems flow easily.

Charmaine, I wish too, but it seems to be getting worse instead of better which is very sad but then I guess every generation could say that.

To reply to Frank below---so true and some of the most poignant writes come so quickly and flow from the heart without effort almost like their or our hand was guided somehow----perhaps not--I don't know---but I've found that the more I labor over a write, it shows through somehow---Hemingway once said it's best to walk away and revisit later than to force a finish.

Some of the best words ever written, seem to flow in a moment, without control.....a flood of emotion that strikes a chord in every heart. This is one of those moments.
