My Favorite Movies - Favorite Movie Scenes
Blog Posted:11/17/2012 6:40:00 AM

I had such a blast the last time I did a movie blog I couldn’t help but do it again…This time I’m narrowing it down to favorite movie scenes…here are a few of mine…feel free to jump in!

Horror: The scene of the Exorcist (Max von Sydow) answering the call a second time… standing in the foggy street facing the house of the demon…flash to the demon’s eyes…wild with terror…they had met before….

Horror: The bathroom scene in The Shining…the back and forth between Jack and Grady in an orange, brightly lit bathroom…Grady ‘accidentally’ spills a drink on Jack and insists on taking him to the bathroom to clean it up…Grady starts out as a polite, fawning waiter dabbing off Jack’s coat…when Jack recognizes him and accuses him of being the caretaker, he at first politely denies it…”I’m sorry sir, I’m afraid I don't recall”…when Jack insists, Grady’s character takes an evil turn …”I beg to differ with you sir,…but… YOU are the caretaker. You have always BEEN the caretaker….I should know sir, because I… have always been here”….SHIVER ME TIMBERS!!

Adventure: The partly improvised scene in ‘Jaws’ of Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfus and Roy Schneider on Quint’s boat getting drunk and showing off their scars, etc…Schneider asks Shaw (Quint) “What’s that one?”… Quint reluctantly proceeds (with a wide, pained grin) to relate his story of being on the USS Indianapolis in WWII…Shaw was awesome…the second coming of Captain Ahab…one of the best screen performances ever in my opinion

Crime drama: Al Pacino’s calm, vicious confrontation with brother-in-law Carlo about the death of Sonny in The Godfather …”Ah, that little farce you played with my sister, you think that could fool a Corleone?"....“Only don’t tell me you’re innocent…because it insults my intelligence…and makes my very angry”…When Carlo confesses, Pacino calmly and matter-of-factly takes back the drink he gave him…”Good, there’s a car outside waiting to take you to the airport”

Suspense: The brutal scene in ‘Deliverance’ …It finally dawns on Ned Beatty and John Voight what the hillbillies’ true intentions are …Not the rape scene itself…just the awful realization…I recall an uneasy murmur in the audience… “Oh no…they’re not going to do THAT are they?”

Comedy: No contest here in my opinion…’The lemonade vendor scene’ in Duck Soup featuring Chico and Harpo Marx…The clip can easily be found on the internet…

The scene in a Christmas Carol when Ebenezer Scrooge (Alistair Sim) asked forgiveness "Can you forgive an old fool.... " before entering and joining the Christmas Party. The scene in The Quiet Man when Maureen O'Hara throws her dowry in the burner. The drag race scene in Rebel Without a Cause.

Just too many too narrow it down, sides I couldn't remember the particulars anyways. LOL. Ya'll watch some icky horror stuff. That's the one genre I don't watch much of. I do like the scene/s on The Green Mile when John Coffey (Michael Duncan) revives Mr. Jingles and then later heals the wife of one of the guards then waits to release the foulness into the guard which was so mean. Interesting though. Love this movie!! :) Tanya

Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke in "Training Day"...the scene when Denzel dropped the rookie cop off at the Ese's(Latino gangsters). They spared his life, because of the teenage girl he saved from being raped, was related to the Ese's! It he wouldn't have had her wallet on him, he was a dead man.

That movie is based on a true story. He probably started doing Peace Officer work after that; tickets, fingerprinting, etc. Lol

I remember that scene, Scribe!...very intense...I thought the rookie cop was a dead man for sure

still the biggest John Wayne fan in the world, so the scene toeards the end of "the Searchers" where John Wayne picks up Natalie Wood and she's hitting him with her little fists and then it clicks he isn't going to hurt her, and he says "let's go home Debbie", and I bawl like a baby every time

Yep...never saw a bad John Wayne movie...love the end of True Grit...'well, come see a fat old man sometime!"...slaps his horse's behind with his hat and jumps the fence....

"Irreversible", a French movie with my impossible love: Monica Bellucci, has one of the most "walked-out-of movie-in-disgust" scenes. A shoking rape scene, portrayed in a single, unbroken shot. I almost stop the movie...I think it's the most vivid but terrible scene ever..(not recommeded). Another "great" scene is in "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover" where Hellen Mirren confronts her husband (Michael Gambon) and forces him to eat a mouthful of her lover cooked body.

ruben. look down at the movie I discussed at the bottom. It was the same movie you are describing here. There were THREE horrific scenes. The meat truck, the one you just described, and the one where the guy is killed by his mouth being stuffed with paper.

Vincent Cassel is her husband, he works in the movie but not as the rapist. I didnt know it was in youtube...im going to try to watch that part again... : )

Had to look up that rape scene up on utube, Ruben...Brutal for sure...I saw in a footnote that it was her real life husband who played the rapist...

Shiver me timbers, does it have to be one of these? I think i have probably seen them all but nothing can beat the one I am thinking of. HOwever, it's not a favorite movie scene of mine. It comes from a movie so graphic that it got an NR rating. I can't even recall its title any more, but there is a scene where the married woman and her lover have to hide in back of her husband's horribly smelly meat truck. There are other scenes equally repelling and superbly visual. That is the most memorable movie I saw for stand out scenes!!

YES!! I didnt read your comment. "The cook" represents the citizens;"the thief": the polititians' arrogance and greed; "the wife": an abstract notion of the "country"; and "the lover": the intellectual leftist opposition.

Diffinitely the lovemaaking scene in Risky Business with Tom Cruise Rebbeca DeMornay. It starts with the two lovers passing through the old-style turnstile with the attendant making change through a barred window. During this scene, there's very little dialog, except for Tom Cruise saying, "I thought no one was supposed to be here." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDlTGhe3YoE
