Cyndi MacMillan is a well-rounded writer who embraces many genres and forms. Her work has been published in local newspapers and has won contests. She enjoys reading literary journals, and she is actively pursuing publication within their glossy covers.

Verse is both magnetic and kinetic. She attempts - madly- to give equal attention to her poetry, short stories, and a novel-in-progress, the Trim of Wicks.  Regardless of genre, she focuses on language. One word has the power to repel or pull. She never forgets the reader and does her best to make their ride interesting.

Poetry soup is a good forum which enables people from around the world to share poetry. It has some great resources and provides a nice space for friends to meet.

Cyndi lives in a small town in Ontario with her husband, young daughter and far too many books.

Poetry is man’s rebellion against being what he is

                              ~James Branch Cabell~

This spring I sat back and watched as my daughter not only discovered her shadow, but chose to change it. Upon facing the dark shape, she identified it, said "It's me, too." Then, she decided it needed to be yellow and took her sidewalk chalk and began to colour it.

The mom-me first saw a child exploring her world, being creative. Then the poet-me saw more. I saw how even a three year old inspects self, tries to create art from her own self-image, pokes and strokes id and superego, seeks change.

We do this as poets. Give ourselves emotional and physiological autopsies, pare away the outer, and reveal the inner. Sometimes, it is complete malarkey. Sometimes, it is real and beautiful.

Here are two new poets to soup who write of themselves in the most delightful way. Brave ones, we applaud you! REAL AND BEAUTIFUL!

Drive

The muggy road

coughs the ticker tape

I trace with my eyes.

A piece here…

a piece there

I could spend a day

Wondering what the

asphalt tastes like

If that was a choice

I would fantasize about

doing what I wanted

“STOP” coming only from me

Everything would be left

And feel right

And I could be a glutton

to the singleness of me.

The destination immense,

A sea, a patient sea

that for me, could wait

unlike the Acura on my back

With an assertive fist raised

Against what I do

I am who I am

For me

Not you.

Solitude

That half-breath moment as I wake

light ebbing through closed lids

as will o’ the wisps steal away dreams.

Nothing, everything, is as it seems.

I could be.

In that moment,

in that light,

in that dream.

I am.

Please share whatever you wish, as long as it is friendly to your fellow Soupers. Have you ever written a biographical poem that captures the side of you that few see?

If not yet, will you? When? How?

This is a very delightful sharing that I've really enjoyed reading this morning my dear Cyndi. In fact, I've already 1 bio poem written for the contest just recently and acrostic of my name which all tell about me, ones I can see in myself (which I don't know if others can see it). I love the sample poems above, the epigram and the story. We poets have a life like canvas that we need to creatively design or paint everyday. We need to be creative as much as possible filling the canvas with the mood in our mind. Thank you so much for the reading/sharing. Have a nice day!!
