About CYNDI MACMILLAN
(Show Details...)
Bloggers Photo Writing a biography irks me. How much to reveal? What tidbits to conceal?

The Basics: I’m a 45 year-old, stay-at-home mom of an adorable two year old girl. I’m happily married to a wonderful man who is my living contradiction, the quiet to my loud, the calm to my frantic. Life continually amuses, bemuses and confuses me.

My first poem, which I wrote at five, was entitled, “Lov is Magik” and my father kept the fading, folded paper I scribbled it upon in his wallet for decades. I have tinkered in poetry ever since, but my main passion is fiction. My short stories have been published in the local papers. Occasionally, I dabble with creative non-fiction. I have a several chapters of a book completed which I’m hoping to submit to Avalon Books.

Despite years of living in Ontario, I will always consider myself foremost a Montrealer. Now living in Waterloo County, home of Research in Motion, maker of the Blackberry, I am content in our downsized apartment which is close to uptown, but overlooks Laurel Creek.  Though considered Canada’s Silicon Valley, the city is surrounded by a picturesque countryside filled with Mennonites. It is not uncommon to see a Mercedes Benz carefully pass a horse drawn wagon. Even our local hardware stores provide parking for buggies. We have many wonderful festivals, two universities, and culture galore.

I spent years as an E.C.E. teacher and adore children. Now, that I have one of my own –after 16 heartbreaking years of infertility – my days are filled with finger paints and drinking imaginary tea from tiny pink tea cups. Sleep is a distant memory and writing is my night time balm. My hubby works evening shifts. After my girl is asleep, my imagination runs wild and I write.

I am a Jill of all trades. I've worked as a personal care attendant in a home for young people with physical and developmental challenges. Had a short go as a dishwasher in my younger days, oh joy.  I've also been an engraver, a store manager, a cashier at the Sally Anne, but my last job was as at an office where I worked on databases (I WISH I was a geek.)

As a newer member of Poetry Soup, I am often dazzled by its diversity, the quiet, shy voices, the bellows in the foreground, the cackles in the corners. There is so much talent here! I love the contests run by its members as I enjoy a challenge.

Nice to meet you!  Looking forward to growing together, as writers and friends.

Hugs, Cyndi

LOVIN' THE NEW SOUP MEMBER AREA CHANGES
Blog Posted:10/3/2012 8:03:00 AM

Way to go, Soup Admin!

The new inbox/outbox tabs are great. Though I do wish we could view our Soupmail outbox. I know that I can just write all my soupies in word and save, should I want to remember what I sent so and so... but it would be lovely to be able to do this right on the Soup.

Still, the new format does make it easier to see blog and poem comments!

Awesome job.

Thanks to PD for pointing this out quickly.

This page is for back pats for the soup team. They receive very little for what they do.

And let's face it. We're here because we ENJOY the Soup, right? I've checked out some other sights. Yes, they have a bit more glitz but they have less resources, less organization and I like how this place is woven together.

So, I raise a toast to the team.

Thanks, guys.

Well. I do not care for the changes. Things were much easier before. I do not understand anything now. But what is one to do? Limit my stay.

I like changes, if I know about them. I had no idea my Soupmail was buried inside of the inbox. Only need some information to make things easier. I'm an odd one, I like change. Glad I found my mailbox. thx everyone for all the tips. ;- )Lee

LOL. Okay, will help you out tomorrow night, after my tike is asleep. Now, to soup mail just go to the poet's poem page. Click on my name for example. The wee envelope icon beside my name at the top of the poem page will open soup mail TO me. It's 10:30 and I have only written 3 paragraphs! ARGH! I'm tired...

Cyndi...How do you post a blog (like a poem or something) without it coming out in a paragraph??...posted one a good while ago and it came out like that...what the heck am I doing wrong???... Or was it just a glitch that they've fixed now? Please educate this dummy! - Tim

Hey-ya, Tim, I am a diehard Word user. I type my blogs into word and then copy and paste into the blog. Then I use the format buttons on the blog entry page to change font size, bold/italics and colour. If you're still unsure, soup mail me your email and I can send you a word file with print screen images to show you. Hope this helps! :)

I didn't even notice your blog until now because I was so hurried when I did my own blog. It's good the opposing view is here. I see no advantages yet. I only know that I can no longer use the "go back" key. I can't use it on back pages of people's poetry I am seeing either. For someone who comments a lot and sees many poems of members from their back pages, I find the new system very unhelpful.

It's not blue. It's a black arrow top left. It is not functioning anymore like it used to. Only for a few things. I don't know how to explain it any better than that.

Girl, you're losing me. ?? Okay, are you talking about the big blue BACK TO button that is a part of windows? It's right there! Right at the top of the screen. There was another go back button? Huh? LOL...

I will finish Orange! Promise! My girl is having some kinda backlash to my hubby leaving for a 4 day trip and has been up 2-4 times a night for 4 weeks!!! I am having a hard time focusing, which fiction needs. She gets to sleep at 9:30 most nights, that is when I START to write! EGAD! I'm off to bed now. It's 10:30. I wrote about 3 paragraphs!
