Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow

By Elton Camp

Once she was a child and with great hope filled
Now only in her twenties, her very soul is chilled

Sheer desperation grows stronger with each day
To escape her dilemma, Daphne can see no way

Her husband who had been handsome and fine
To all of her needs, has become utterly blind

Sean continues to be periodically unemployed
It is with his wife that he gets terribly annoyed

He doesn’t make enough money to get by
Yet, to get a stable job, he doesn’t even try

“A hard worker is a thing that I’ve never been”
Sean apatheically tells his wife again and again

Even for food Daphne must scrape and ration
But Sean shows not even the least appreciation

But deals with her with ever-increasing contempt
When to cope with the situation she does attempt

Their young children, Daphne’s attemtion demand
She loves them, but they are ever right at hand

Her precarious health leaves much to be desired
For Daphne begins and ends her days too tired

For this family, what does the future hold?
This is a grim story that is yet to be told
