BUFFALO THUNDER

                                                     BUFFALO THUNDER

Silence worn like a rippling cloak lay gently upon the hills
Alert and pulsing for the hushed blue moment to arrive
Buffalo ghosts at twilight rumble dust across the horizon
gentle-- but compounded with the mounting tremors
                                                       world shattering
                                                    Countless but ever growing
as if there was no number to bind them
                                                         wrapped in darkness without foe
                                                     Legions wrapped in dusty joy
                                  The boy crouches --rock sheltered--
in lone splendor encompassed in thundering thrills
                                                            Time suspended
War ponies freshly painted join the herd in eloquence
                                                           Thunder rolls across the plains
The herd of Black Elk’s sacred vision
                                                                 Is all that here remains.
