An Empty Shell

Written by: Mary Chapman

She sits alone, an
empty shell
in the middle of it
all.
Large as life yet
fragile enough
to hurt her when she
falls.

She bears the pain
of all reject
and heals herself
again.
She loves, she hates
the indifference
and wonders who to
blame.

She does not know or
understand
the reason is not
clear.
Perhaps she is not
at all sure
and it shows up in
her fears.

Anger that takes
hold of her
spirit and her mind
unwilling to release
her from
the hold of death in
time

What is in this
empty shell?
Has a mind of its
own,
Yet on the day of
her release from it
She will find her
way back home.
