New Horizons

Written by: Keith Bickerstaffe

He felt lost and insignificant,
his lips spoke trivialities,
his hapless heart was inarticulate.
Fearfully he fumbled through
his hazy days, shunning opportunities,
urgently hoping they wouldn't pick him.

A wraith within a wraith, he flittered by
commitment like a man without a plan,
he only knew the pleasure of denial.
Then he was pushed into the present
by a crushing ultimatum, compelling
him to find a his way alone.

New horizons spread before him,
old fears and insecurities disperse.
With a spring in his step, a twinkle in his eye,
a new found confidence and clarity,
he's out from under that crippling blow,
and this gentleman? Well, he's none other than I.
