Simple Yearnings

Written by: Debbie Guzzi

Trees have struggled from a fetal curl
just to burst upon the world
born to reach out, to grow, to strive;
limbs stretched to be alive.

As the long years have come and passed.
I've stood 'gainst man's lash.
though fumes may waylay my breath
still twisted form knows not death.

Trunks side by side we stand and dream
uprooted famed without scheme.
Boles and branches, root and soul
we soldier on, keep man whole.

To clean the air, to bring you shade,
the God filled beauty of a glade.
We simply yearn to see the sun
and help mankind, till day is done.
