Whispers

Written by: Bob shank

voices illuminated
by dark shadows cast
restless souls of long ago
begging for companionship
come hither son
this world is no longer yours
join us in the true sense of freedom
why fight the inevitable

questions never answered
have become my legacy
like the losing poker hand
played out in false hopes
knowing how much agony
could be spared
in simply folding

the willingness to fight
to be a warrior
against insurmountable odds
a Louis Lamour character
lonely and desolate
sitting by a fireplace
with nothing but a dead horse
and a set of rusty guns

a full moon rises
wolves begin to howl
for they too
can hear and acknowledge
the whispers
