Heat

Heat

I lay dormant in the clouds as if
the air has left me. I'll fly as I can
to bring into motion the cool breezes
of Seal Beach. But the air is heavy
with the sun's light.

I will change into a busy ant crawling
quickly in and out of the daylight...
worrying to find an ant-whole for a
bit of repair. Does this sun not rest?
The heat of the sand sticks to me like
the old crumbled paper of a dried hamburger.

I will fly again to the sky hoping the
clouds will be set free and that the
air will move again to cool me. Then
I'll find peace as the wings of this monarch
glides like a bullet in the blue skies.
