Carolina Christmas

Written by: Tim Ryerson

With squeals of delight and shouts of pure glee
Rough-housing beneath that droopy pine tree
Daddy feigns mad but we know he is bluffing
Christmas was poor but we wanted for nothing

Bolting out the door with sling-shots in tow
Stalking Peter Rabbit and unconcerned crows
Big brother scolds for poor shots and rushing
Christmas was poor but we wanted for nothing

Time to test-drive refurbished bicycles
Sister lags back on her squeaky tricycle
Granny calls out "Come for turkey and stuffing!"
Christmas was poor but we wanted for nothing

Grandpa gives thanks in his rough craggy voice
All happy as clams but too tired to rejoice
We doze by our presents with bellies near busting
Christmas was poor but we wanted for nothing
