Trail of Tears

Written by: Larry Belt

Built on lies, we're trodden down
No place to call our home
A lamenting path that leads to death
A people, cursed to roam

With swallowed pride we don't look back
To see the things we've lost
For our trust became our shackles
Our blood became the cost

They would even take our language
Our souls forbidden to speak
Promises were made to give us hope
Or maybe to appease the weak

They took what wasn't ours to give
For progress, or so they said
When they were busy dividing our land
We were busy counting our dead

They say that time can heal all wounds
That form thoughout the years
But scars run deep for those forced to walk
The tragic Trail of Tears
