A fools game

Written by: Amanda Sullivan

Gambling,
fools game,
oh the shame,
who would of known,
that the very first flutter,
would lead to me in the gutter.

Alone,
damp streets,
no-one to greet,
falling to my feet,
pick pennies and butts up,
to feed my craving and need.

Help,
desperation/panic,
I suddenly realised,
the reality, my habit,
I need to snap it,
before I become a severe addict.

Rehab,
rehab centre,
here I come,
going to crack it,
determined to win this time,
full of slight reluctance, nerves, overwhelmed.

Six,
six months,
I've won it,
I've regained my life,
time to get back on track,
no more bets or slot machines.
