Another Child Lost

Written by: Deb Wilson

The child was a desolate being.
He was a mirror to my soul.
I know he thought of fleeing.
I've played a similar role.
Circumstances beyond control.

They jeered and took his money.
Pushed his face into the dirt.
The crowd thought it was funny.
This poor child's on full alert.
Wrenched my heart until it hurt.

I tried to call him to me.
But the shame took him away.
Watched him struggle to be free.
As he made his broken way
He was much too scared to stay.

I heard it on the news that night.
And I wept bitter tears.
This child snuffed out his beautiful light.
Just couldn't live with his fears.
Preferred to simply disappear.
