The Mask

Written by: Erica Gould

I have grown accustomed,
To pretending not to care.
People search my face,
But emotion isn't there.

Everything I cared for,
Got taken out of spite,
So I took away the satisfaction,
The only way to fight.

But now I can't undo it,
I've tried to shed the mask,
I've tried to let myself shine through.
A nearly impossible task.

They never understand me,
Because I never showed the pain,
They now seem burdened with my feelings
So I must wear the mask for them.
