For My Mom's Past

Written by: Misheel Chuluun

Just like when you were my goddess
and I was your little daughter;
when your hands were the gentlest
touch I knew, and the harshest

Shine the spotlight of your attention
through the clutter of your emotions
on a day that sits quietly
backing into a fog of time

Because all the while you tried so hard
I only knew to play along;
unable to give you relief or respite
I don't blame you at all, not at all;

Perhaps then you may find me,
among the cosmetics, cleaning supplies,
or among the shadows of that past,
coming forward with a smile.
