Strength

Nine months of security, I rested in the womb,
Thriving into maturity, in this body perfect tomb.
As contractions began, my world washed away,
Leaving as gently as I can, I see light of a new day.

I have been strong for so long, something has changed,
Tears in my eyes see the blurriness of a life rearranged.

Three months on the school yard, my skin a target,
Bullied, beaten, emotionally scarred, I will not forget.
Keep head held high, let no one ever bring me down.
Aim for the sky, be ready to leave this abusive town.

I've been strong for so long, something has changed.
Tears in my eyes see the blurriness of a life rearranged.

Study day and night, college holds possibility,
My delayed learning might hinder education for me.
Struggling to learn, I have fallen behind the crowd.
The midnight oil I burn, I will make my mama proud.

I've been strong for so long, something has changed.
Tears in my eyes see the blurriness of a life rearranged.

Wedding bells ring, walking down the forever,
Twenty years we swing, fighting, we never,
Birthdays, anniversaries, planning our life,
Fighting adversaries, proud to be a wife.

I've been strong for so long, something has changed.
Tears in my eyes see the blurriness of a life rearranged.

Final the resting place, the tears they flow,
I belonged in my space, but now I must go.
Never weak was I, I was always strong.
I am allowed to cry, and I've known that all along.

Be proud of where you have come. Life knocked you down but you always got up and accomplished so much. So laugh, cry and enjoy your power.

An emotional piece...yes we are all allowed to cry, many of us always do it behind closed doors. A great piece of writing. BG

Walking through life with head looking to the sky. Difficulties are there just to be surmounted, never us to stop, as they forge our character for greater things to achieve! A life in a nutshell, an alternative title could be for this excellent and dynamic biographical poem! Very well done, dear Casarah!
