A quiet companion

You sit upon a shelf.
Placed where the eyes can see.
Your waiting to be noticed,
Filled with curiousity.
You wait until I settle comfortly in to bed.
Then you move so stealthly, and lay above my head.
You are like a child.
Yet you never say a word.
Although you are my cat.
You should have been a bird!
