our impending extinction

the flowers have grown
taller than the tree remnants.
the rocks have turned to sand
blown into the sea.
the grass has paled and peeled,
the sky is beginning to crack,
releasing stars to be glued to the earth.

we have become ether,
mere floating objects behind the clouds.
