The Shower

I sit inside
Watching the rain,
Tracing it's path
Down the window pane.

I gaze at the people
Rushing past,
Praying the shower
Will not last.

Coats are buttoned,
Umbrellas brought out.
It's a downpour
There's no doubt.

Snug inside
I sip my tea,
Getting wet
Is not for me.

People dash for cover
As the rain pelts down,
Making the puddles
A murky brown.

The streets are empty,
As the rain reaches it's worst.
It's a good job
I found shelter first.

Slowly the puddles
Stop growing in size,
The sun and the rain
Reach a compromise.

As the rain drizzles down
And the sun reappears,
I see the most beautiful
rainbow I've seen in years.

People emerge
From under trees,
All that's left
Is a refreshing breeze.

Although it's dry
I want to stay another hour,
I'll watch and watch
For the next winter shower.
