Snowfall

He had seen a lot of it
In his lifetime growing up here

Gently falling snow
All about the roads and fields

Each and every year it comes
Gentle and unexpected

Just like tears of ice
Somehow misdirected

He often wondered
How each year it looks so new

White and frozen, crystalline
A winter’s rendezvous

Looking out he wondered, how many
More years he’d live to see

The snow, like feathers falling
With pleasant urgency

Many stories ran through his mind
As he watched the winter’s rain

Of car rides, and family trips
of life lived through a windowpane

Memories of his so very special
now and long ago

Captured in the falling
Of precious, newborn snow
