AN ACCIDENT

Driving home late one foggy night
I came across a dreadful sight
A car wrapped round an old oak tree
The driver desperately trying to flee

Fiery flames were leaping round
The car engine making a screeching sound
I pulled up sharp and went to their aid
Made sure I rang the fire brigade

But the searing heat held me back
I quickly ran to a run down old shack
An old man was sobbing on the floor
He pointed out of the peeling door

The weeping tree for that’s its name
Claimed an innocent victim yet again
Believe me he said, it has ruined my life
It was there I found my daughter and wife

Thirty-three years ago to this very day
At the base of the tree their bodies lay
It was on a murky misty night like this
Now my life is a dismal dark abyss

I soon could see a blue flashing light
Turned around and got an awful fright
Not a car or a tree could be seen
Then I awoke... it was just a terrible dream
