The reason I was born

The reason I was born

I was sitting it was after noon
I didn’t know what to do
So I picked up my old guitar
And played chords, just a few
I could not play for very long
Cause me hands went numb as hell
Ever since I had that lousy op
My body don’t do too well.

My hands are numb. my poor hip hurts
I’m tired all the time
This body that I’m living in
Isn’t worth a single dime
But I won’t let it get me down
It’s still a lovely day
The birds still sing amidst the trees
In a very lovely way

So I decide to write a poem
Cause that’s just what I do
The rhymes flow smoothly from my pen
And soon I feel brand new
The body might feel down a bit
But my soul is in fine form
To write songs is my destiny
The reason I was born.

You are right Donna, we all get wrapped up in the story, but look within and we find the soul always there and forever will be. Nice to see you back at last, my friend...peter

Hi Robert. I love met life so much that even If I was locked up in prison I would find something to be joyful about. That joy lives in each one of us, but it has to be seen. I always appreciate your nice comments, my friend....peter

Good afternoon, I really like the lightness , and joyful tone in this poem. I read it as an ode to life! As my long gone granny used to say; As long as I got the wits, I can get around.

Hi Gry, I think your Granny was right on the mark with these words. It is the awareness of what's around one that counts. I really appreciate you visiting my page and commenting, my friend....peter

Peter: When I start complaining about the woes of growing old, I stop myself and start thinking of the boys who didn't make it home from The Nam. Then I remind myself that growing old is a heck of a lot better than the alternative -- dying young. Jerry

This is true Jerry, and also the ones that survived, but their lives are too badly cut up tho function well in society. I have never met a Vietnam vet yet who is not suffering in some way. I consider myself very lucky for having cured my PTSD. not many can do this.I really appreciate your comments, my friend...peter

Hope your healing continues at a pace Peter - the main thing is it doesn't stop your mighty pen from producing fabulous poems. hugs Jan xxx
