What do we miss when we drive by
And bow our heads with blinded eye.
What is it we don't hear - deny
When loudly we should heed their cry.
What stays locked in darkened rooms;
In shuttered fear and ceaseless doom.
Where there a hopeful smile once bloomed
A buried heart now lies entombed.
Say some, why not escape her fate.
Why live with rage and constant hate
With one who's only words berate -
So walk away, it's not too late.
Until she lies upon the floor,
Her hand reached out to grasp the door,
To welcome help that she implored -
In silence now ... forevermore.
