Life is What YOU Make it

Birth … Death;
You fill in the blank.

Some are dealt an easy hand;
Some given challenges that are hard;
Some are fed with a silver spoon;
Some presented problems by the yard.

Some have so much support;
Some are left all on their own;
Some live in luxury;
Others don’t even have a home.

But, regardless of what circumstances bring,
it is what WE do with all of these things
that determines what our lives are worth
and where we take it after birth.

Then, when death comes knocking at our door,
and the breath of life we breathe no more,
and the life we lived – as the Reaper takes it,
was lived the best as WE could make it.

We have no say in the style of our birth,
but we must own our own life’s quest;
WE are responsible for the story in between
of our birth and death.

    Thanks for the nice words AiyaH. Regarding the rule, that 1st line, "Birth ... Death / You fill in the blank." is intended to be part of the poem itself and, therefore, I think, the rule is being followed. But, thanks for looking out for me, I appreciate it. Joe
