Australia day

Australia day

Its three PM Australia day
The day’s as hot as Hell
The budgies chirp delightfully
There’s a ringing like a bell
As the breeze kisses the wind chimes
And that sky, electric blue
It sends those sun beams crashing down
It’s damned hot! I tell you.

The world is wilting, woefully
Some plants look fit to die
That burning ball of energy
Above there in the sky
It tells the world “I’m here, I’m here!!”
As it flames with heavens power
And on the Rose shrubs in the yard
There just be dried up flowers.

It’s summer time, down under
One hundred plus degrees
I’m drinking beer and waiting, here
To feel that cooling breeze
That comes here after noon is done
To give the heat some ease
Then just a few short hours from now
The dusk might bring release

Hi Sara, our days are cooling down just a bit now, but it will be about a week or two till he hot weather is over. I am a lover of spring and Autumn too. Cats are very beautiful, and I guess it is their nature to hunt. Thank you for your very kind comments, my friend....Peter

Wow what a scorcher you describe! I find myself liking the colder weather verses the incredible heat! But the bitter cold that we have had this winter has me rooting for Spring to come, not summer! But I do live further North so it doesn't get crazy as it did in the South...Texas, where I lived for twenty years, until I couldn't bear it anymore...Sometimes in the evening, the low temperature might be 90 degrees! I'm sure it does that where you live as well! This is a terrific poem, Great Work!!

Hi Russel, so nice of you to red my poem. Our climate seems to be changing a bit, the evenings and mornings seem to be a little cooler these days in the summer. I came to Arizona once, and our temperatures are a breeze compared to theirs. This poem was written a month or two ago , my friend, but it is still over a hundred today. I thank you for your kind comments, Russel.....Peter

When I was forty eight, and filled with energy I ran 38 miles when the temp was over 4o degrees. no water no hat and found it quite easy I had a good hip and back then lol I appreciate your kind comments. my friend....peter

Hi Jan. I love to see the sun each day, and luckily for us here in Australia even when it is cold, the sun shines. I love every bit of life though, rain, shine or wind[we don't get snow]. I appreciate your comments, my friend....Peter

Oh what I'd give to have some sunshine in my life away from these grey wet days on the Island. Sunshine boosts your spirits You are so lucky as long as you find somewhere shady to sit and write and maybe enjoy a nice cold beer. Lovely write my friend. Jan xx

sometimes here in florida temps get mid-ninety's but humidity is 90%, when that happens all we do is drink water, beer whatever because we'll sweat it out in minutes

Oh yes, that humidity, we usually get hot dry weather, But sometimes we get a lot of humidty, never as bad as you described though. Rather have all the hot weather than the cold though. Thank you for your comments. Frederic....Peter

I'm not a big fan of the heat, either. It's fun to be outdoors in the summertime, but why does it have to be so hot! I know how miserable you must be feeling, so I hope you get the relief soon. Stay in the shade if you can, Peter! This is a very good write, my friend!...Thank you so much for the kind birthday wishes! :)

Hello Peter, nice to be here today. It's almost 5 pm here.. Hot as heep.... I too look forward to the dusk, and enjoy the coolness... PD

I don't mind it being hot, as long as it's not humid, and there's plenty of water available. Temperaturewise, I hope you are referring to Fahrenheit temperature. One hundred degrees Celsius is hot enough to boil water. Good write with good rhyming.

well, here in new york it was 16 degrees fahrenheit when i woke up and i actually prefer that to the heat that you describe. at least you'll have a cooling breeze to go with your beer soon! great poem, peter - made me start sweating!
