What You Wish to Know

When you see me cry don't be afraid
Sometimes dads emotions overflow
I know you wonder what's going on
There are things we don't want you to know

Perhaps we're wrong to insulate you
As parents we try to do what's right
We wish for you only sunny skies
That's why we try to bathe you in light

The fact that you care it warms my heart
I will tell you what you wish to know
Today you've grown up you are a man
That's a process I don't wish to slow

Sometimes life it can throw us a curve
I lost my job a few days ago
So now I wonder what will I do
I am at my wits end I don't know

Please come to me I can use a hug
It will help me to feel it's okay
In the end I put my faith in God
With his help things will turn out okay

For F.J. Thomas's "To Heal a Heart" contest

Oops I went over by four lines so I know
I'll be disqualified. I still wanted you to read
the poem you inspired.

Very nicely written Richard. I found as a grandad and father of free, That no matter how you bring your children up, they will turn out the way they were meant to be, and usually you feel that you have failed them. This is my experience, any way. Enjoyed your poem...Peter

The extra four lines make the poem better with more descriptiveness. Just correct the misspelled word in the third line of your second verse. The word "skys" is correctly spelled "skies". Everything else looks good.

Hi Richard..From the comments below it seems this happening is not present.I love the way you described the sheltering to your son..by not revealing your pain..but yes when are children become adults its like having a child and a bestfriend.I'm sure Our father in heaven was your shelter in such difficult times..and I do believe everything in life happens for a reason We d later be grateful : )Lovely poem.Btw..tnks for supporting becca s sun glasses blog: ) : ) Cool

So sorry for neglecting you, Rick! Being the dad of 5, I can certainly relate to this one! So very well expressed! However, if true about losing a job, with your knowledge of life and people, it shouldn't be long before that is recognized and you'll be on top of your game once again! Good luck, my friend!
