The Songbird Sings

Twice the shadows descend
upon the ring of water, stagnant

Twice the high winds hurl heavy rain
awaits the Songbird's song

Breaking like fine crystal the songbird descends
upon the brown earth

The descent creates a stir, greater
Down, down the songbird
coils and retracts

Resistant to the downward push,
the songbird sings
taking in the glory
of its forgotten pleasure.
