PITY THE PIRANHA

                      “All cruelty springs from weakness.”
                                                  - Seneca

            _______________________________

Piranha cannot help
            being piranha

Savagery, mindlessness,
the sharp art of butchery
were inflicted
           upon them

Denied soul,
but granted a talent
to destroy
              without prejudice

Cold, mercilessly cold,
feasting on the vulnerable
working malice, deboning victims like
             blood-let machines

Pity razor teeth
             pity those loops of hunger

Pity most of all their cursed nature,
psychotic, relentless,
heartless

            and inherently obscene

Hi Cyndi, I did not know you had it in you... I'm kidding, I know you can write about anything. Somehow, I attract human Piranha... LOL... No wonder I'm drawn to these meat eaters, and savage killers. I've seen every Piranha movie on Netflix, I've also seen all the recent movies on the sharp teeth fishes on DVD, I do pity them, and any fish under sea level. I don't see why this world needs to be cold. -- I cannot say "If you can't beat them join them." What I can say, "If you can't eat them block them..." LOL..... I'm just kidding, I've been in a joyful mood all day long. Loving and enjoying this' let the blood line loose. Soup mail. ~Linda~

Dear Cyndi: This is man's tragedy: labeling what he thinks is cruelty. In truth, man is oftentimes the "piranha" in this violent world. You quote from Seneca is spot-on relevant. Lovely write. Thought-provoking read. Thank you. Leon

When I was a kid I seen Piranahs in a James Bond Movie and I still carry that image in my mind. This is a very effective piece.

I wonder. Born that way. Can they help it? Maybe, but do they want to, no. Get the restraints. love, Kathy

On second thought, what if Piranha were comparatively the nicest things around, including people. What a trip this life would be eh?

But if we didn't have some bad in the world, we wouldn't know the difference, would we? Good write. hey, just a thought. Work on your by-lines to have a second message. Maybe contrasting?

Chris is right, i think, it's a weakness of the mind. But this particular blowfish isn't interested in help, too closed minded, and therefore his hearing is impaired too. Cute poem, Cyndi. hugs, catie :)

A provocative perspective on aspects of the human condition. This is a guilt-trip, right? I have them too. At times many of us swim around in schools of piranha, but I would like to believe that most of us have more soul-weight than described above. Obviously it is conscience which separates the different "species" of character. Then again, there are so many variables. It isn't always a weakness of character, but instead, a weakness of the mind.

I like this poem; somehow reminds me of certain people who make the lives of others a misery.
