Yesterday

Yesterday can never come again.
All my family were together then.
My memories are beckoning, and I want to be where
Troubles in that place I know as yesterday
Seemed to always melt away
So easily!
Far into my past -
Away, so far away, I wish to flee.

Now I face the future.
It brings to me a feeling which
Seems a little bit like dread
As all the new uncertainties swirl inside my head.
Though I still have family and many lovely friends,
They’re in a world their own, apart from mine.
Here am I, in my own little world, and
To the very end, this is where I’ll
Stay!

Oh, my memories! In golden moments loved ones shine!
I long for that togetherness, the joy that I
Believe is only found
In family because our worlds were not divided then.
Yesterday, why can’t you come again?

Very nice. Growing up and becoming distant to family is a very sad thing. Togetherness is wonderful. One of my grandmother's sisters set a fine example for us all. Every year, at least once a year everyone in her immediate family and the VERY extended family were invited to a family feast...a reunion. Being a part of that was wonderful! She died a few years ago at age 103. I think her children have begun the tradition with their own children and grandchildren.Congrats on your win.

Andrea, this poem captures perfectly the nostalgia and regret I was looking for, matching exactly the theme of the song's words. Congratulations on the top win! Cheers, Roy

I came here to tell you how sorry and embarrassed I am because I did NOT pick up on "Beneath the Echo" as being the sea. I should have when I read this line, “When *Kraken drags his victims ‘neath my skin,” and the next one also. Accept my apology, that is what happens when you read too face, you miss things. This poem is fraught with reality as it is and a past which will never come again. I read it three times, hoping to not make another gaffe.

I admire your fankness and sincerity in telling me this. I have misread countless poems here as well. Luv, Andrea
