Nothing's New

If nothing's new under the Sun,
whence, pray tell, did this poem come?
My Ego itches, my side in stitches-
When Morning thoughts have their fun.

Bring the houris and tell them stories-
thine odalisques should fawn
O'er the glories of our quarries-
before the day has dawned.

Interesting poem but seems written out of boredom and as a way to experiment with new words. Been reading Reader's Digest, have we? You've written better. By the way, ‘Whence’ implies a “from” already; so preceding it with ‘from’, which is commonly done, is redundant. This is the principal advantage of using a word like “whence” instead of just saying “from where”; it implies the “from” already.

Playful, inspired little piece. I really enjoyed it. The opening couplet sizzles.

:D Fawn, one of those words I wish we could resurrect. Years ago, I had a blog put up here on vintage words... sigh... Hey, ahem, er, I wrote you a sonnet. I think (hopehopehope) you like it. I'll be blogging it in a few days, tonight belongs to Nette. Hugs, CLW, much more than 2

:D Whew You're okay...was worried about you getting a chill. Your sonnet IS posted in my poems... but your blog about the poem will be in a day or two (trying to go by order of poems written, tonight is for Linda Marie) :( Hey but :-) I put up a true story on your Feminist blog (I think I'm more a Feminine-ist - ha!) I'm going to go scout a link I had in my blog on lovely old words BRB

How sweet of you Loo-Who! That genuinely warms my heart and cheers my Soul <3 <3 I love old, discarded archaic words; they're beautiful. I am so with you about resurrecting the old words. Thank you so much for the read and reply, Miss Thing; I adore you :) ~ Chan

Nothing's new, just recreated. And recreated in a different light, the light of dawn. Bring me the Odalisques! Have fun my fiend, and may the day bring great things.
